When I was a kid, there was an afghan like this in my mother's house. I think my great-grandmother made it. That's why I wanted to do one.

Well, I FINALLY finished my "hurricane afghan", the traditional 5 round granny square scrap afghan I've always wanted to make.  Here it is:

All that work and I still have enough scrap yarn to make 2 more!

That is so pretty!! These are my favorite afghans as well, and my favorite block to make. :)

That is so pretty, when I was about 8 my adopted Aunt made me one and I still have it. and treasure it so much. I really wish I could crochet I just can't seem to get the hang of counting the stitches.

You just gotta have some show you and practice, practice. I used to just crochet a few stitches in single crochet til I got the hang of making a simple square. Pick a color that it is easy to see the stitches.

Can anyone tell me how to crochet a G on a beanie?

I suggest you use some graph paper and x off each stitch of the color you're using for the G. Carry your yarn loosely on the inside of the beanie. Work the color for the stitch and then drop it and pick up the main color. No need to carry the yarn all the way around to the front. Weave the ends of the G yarn or tie them together to secure the ends.

Does that make sense? Can you see the G? Each stitch is represented by an X or square on the graft paper.

It does kind of. lol,,, I'm not good at this. I'll try that when making one, but do you have a suggestion for one that is already made?

Do you have a picture of the beanie you want to make? A frontal picture? Laid out flat?

For one already made, I would use that same graph and cross stitch w/ contrasting yarn (whatever color you want to make the "G")
