I was using this kind of candler and it worked pretty good!!

Then I bought this and it's wonderful!!

I won't remove any eggs until at least day 10. As far as I'm concerned if it's clear it has no possibility of forming after so many days of doing nothing. I smell each egg as I take them out and if they made the cut I will leave them in there until it hatches or not!!

The shipped eggs are Blue, Black & Splash Marans. I love the Speckled Sussex!! Here's a couple of pics of my Sussex!!

I recently hatched out 9 from Hot2Pot, but I wouldn't mind having somemore. Don't suppose we could work something out so I can get some pretty SS eggs from your gorgeous flock??

Sounds like you got some eggs from some good breeders.

I'm hoping so. I picked the 2 best roosters one has a little bit of white and the other doesn't have any in his tail. He's the one I have with them, the other is a stand by and he's with my egg laying flock!! I got rid of a couple of girls that just had way too much white in them. I have 2 of their eggs in the bator now!!

Well I'm always more worried about my eggs getting too hot than too cold, but I mean to extremes like 105+ or like 80- . If its just a degree or 2 then I'd prefer it to be hotter. So you just set some more eggs? I set my 6 Chinese geese eggs yesterday, 18 turkens the 23rd & 72 Tibetan cortinux quail.

Also Cielo, I candled my Turken eggs today & there's 16 out of 18 developing, I couldn't believe it with shipped eggs! But then again you have like 14 out of 18 going in lockdown Saturday right?

Nice! Yeah 14. I was surprised too. If I want more Turkens I'll surely hunt that seller down again. Very impressive us both having such good results! Especially after having pretty much all my leghorn eggs bomb out. I'm getting a little nervous though. I should go into lockdown tomorrow and I just worry about the shrinkwrap and drowning stories I hear...

So much could still happen! I guess I just have to have faith. My temp has been holding pretty steady 95.5-100.2, my humidity in the 42-50%.
Suggestions for what I should bump it up to for lockdown? I was just planning to fill the other tray like it says in the Hovabator instructions. I decided to keep them in the Hovabator for hatch. The Brinesea will get my California Grey eggs when they arrive. I can't believe in just days I could be seeing those naked little necks surrounded by chick fluff! Whoa... I guess that also means I need to start getting a brooder area set up! Ay ay ay! More babies!? The reality is sinking in... And what if all 14 hatch!?

BURIED IN TURKENS! They get big too!

You asked about bumping up your humidity.. I know alot of people will use extra containers with sponges or with the Brinsea they will lay paper towels in the wells so it will wick the water and give a bigger area of moisture. Since I'm in Louisiana and it's so humid here already I don't worry to much about it!!

I usually keep my humidity in the 40s during incubation then in the 60s at lockdown but this time I'm doing a dry hatch for the first time (except for my geese) & still bumbing to the 60s for lockdown. My temp, except for my power outage, has stayed at 99-102 the entire time so I'm really hoping my 4 make it! Cielo, with the temps & humidity you posted you really shouldn't have to worry about them getting shrink wrapped or drowned. Most of the shrink wrapped stories I've heard are really more from people opening up the incubator during lockdown, especially with some already pipped but then i guess it could happen from low humidity, like super low, I think yours are fine. Then to drown I think your humidity needs to be like in the 60-70s the whole incubation but that's just from what I've learned from being on here, I've only been hatching eggs a couple years so I still consider myself a beginner. I too can't believe that in a few days I'll hopefully have fuzzy butts! With only 4 eggs I won't be overwhelmed like you both could be!

Okay thanks for the tips. I'll be locking down tomorrow afternoon. So your think bumping up to 60ish should be fine for me? If it get's too steamy in there I can open a vent right? I'm a beginner too but I'm happy to be jumping in. I learn something with every batch of eggs. These Turkens are the most success I've had.

Hope I stay lucky the next few days. I'm very excited to see them busting out. I like when it gets to the end and you can see the eggs moving or peeping. I wonder, y'all think laying them on their sides is ok vs putting them in trimmed down egg cartons is a good idea. I've heard of people doing both. Good luck!
