Hello there. For all my posting, I realized I hadn't posted an introduction to myself yet!
So, what to say? I am a small town girl living in rural Northern California. Before you ask, nope, no beaches here. In fact, you're more likely to see tumbleweeds and dust devils here. I live in an area known as 'high desert.' Hot summers, cold winters. Nothing in between. Very dry.
My mother actually got me started with chickens. She had a lot of chickens when I was really small, and growing up, we did move a lot, but we got chickens when we could. Nothing special, just a common breed hatchery mix, and typically only hens, but they all had their own personality, some of them very memorable. This year, I really fell into the 'chicken craze,' as my mother calls it, and decided to go beyond the common breeds and bought 8 bantams. On top of ten laying hens of varying breeds, we now have five Silkies, two Belgian Bearded d'Uccle males, and a Cochin. And I don't plan to end there. I am hoping to find some really nice stock and go beyond eggs and actually breed my chickens.
I admit I've been lurking on this site for years, but given my love for chickens, I was long overdue in joining. There's a wealth of information here, and it helps to ask questions as I am far from being any sort of expert.
