FANS in yer coops/runs?? Whos got em...........

I have two fans in mine - A box fan that sits outside the floor-level window, and an oscillating fan that I have tied to the top step of a stepladder to blow back and forth across the roosts and the nest boxes. I never thought they would enjoy it so much! My poofiest cochin loves to stand backwards in front o the box fan so the air can blow through her drawers! Poor thing has a terrible time in the heat.

Check out garage sales for fans! I paid less than five dollars for each of mine, and I have a couple in reserve.

2 fans! 1 with a perch in front of it. They line up on that perch like crazy when it's hot (which seems like everyday now). Also it really keeps the flys and mosquitoes away from the girls.

My coop is inside a garage. I have a box fan in the window for the big girls in their section and an occilating fan keeping air moving for the chicks in their section but not blowing directly down on them. We also put in a window air conditioner to help with the temps and that is in the section of the garage that is DH work area. Chicks were not doing well in the heat until I turned the AC on and started moving air with the fan. The last couple of days they have really perked up. When the big girls come in it is fun to see them chillin in front of their fan. Humidity is horrid lately so keeping the air moving is important.

I have fans in my breeder coop because they can't get out into the woods like the others

I have some of those small clip on fans. They are not expensive to run and easily moved around as needed inside the coup or outside. (just keep covered from rain)

My husband put a fan in the coop, it has two windows but can only keep them open during the day. Our hens and juvies like to stay out in the run so we moved it to the run yesterday and it was funny, our EE Mystery stood in front of it and laid down and took a rest.....the others followed shortly after. Our baby chicks are a little unsure of it but I am sure they will follow suit as it is hot, hot, hot here!

I built my coop inside my garage. The ventilation was not great so I installed a gable fan with a thermostat. Then put a vent in the other gable to circulate fresh air in through the vent side and stale/hot air out the fan side. With the temps in the high 90s and humidity in the 90s as well that system wasnt enough. I have been putting ice in the waterer a couple times a day, fresh water often. I put a box fan angling into the coop this morning. They were suspicios but I think they'll get used to it. I also give them blocks of frozen berries. I put a little water in a bag of raspberries, blueberries, etc.. freeze it and set it in a dish. They were all over it!

Living in the Sonoran desert gets painfully hot for my girls, so my husband built a swamp cooler into the side of our coop. It runs 24/7 for about 6 months out of the year. It keeps the inside to a tolerable 90ish degrees on the 110+ days and much more comfortable than that when it's only around 100 out. The girls will go inside and hang out in there during the hottest part of the day.
