i got 2 fans in the coop and a lil fan in what i call the baby coop for the babies and broodie hens i have in there so the other birds wont mess with them

they stay all morning in front of the fans and later in the afternoon after its shaded outside they will come out and play in the dirt but will still sometimes run back in to be in the fan

I have a box fan in the barn for those who have to stay inside- most of my birds I turned loose so they could find shady spots in the pasture. People looking for fans- hardwares usually have attic exhaust fans which can be mounted in a window or a hole cut in a wall. I have one somewhere in the barn loft but its too hot to go up there!

I don't have fans in my coop (yet), but I have installed a water misting system. They really like it and it helps tolerate this awful heat 110+ days.

question for those with small or clip on fans. Do the chickens bother the cords? I'd like to put fans in somehow but the cords would probably be within reach. DH thinks I'm crazy and will resist so i need to get all the info before I start.

Hello, I'm new here to BYC. I have 13 hens, and jist aquired a new roo because our "Rudy" (my Welsummer roo) came up missing.

I put our old box fan in our coop. I had my son nail a board to the 2x4's as a shelf and secured the top of the fan to keep it sturdy.! The coops door faces west and most of the breeze is southwest, so we decided to put a small crank window we picked up from the Salvation Army and installed it on the south side. It's still way too hot in there, so that's when I decided they needed the fan! Spoiled birds! In the winter I put a red heat lamp up in the corner to take the chill away, but I always make sure it doesnt become a fire hazard.

We have been in the 100's for over 60 days; YES the chickens have a fan on them and even with the fan it is still very hot in their coop so they have tub from TSC where I put fresh water at least twice a day and float ice blocks. They are a hoot...they will stand in line to have an opportunity to stand in the cool water...some love to stand on the ice blocks.

We do not have fans in our coop or run, but have utilized other methods for keeping the chicks cool! We have 2 misters set up in the pen and in the coop we use milk jugs filled with water and then frozen. We also put ice in the waterer; the chickens drink more when the water is cool! Shade is also a BIG DEAL in the pen. We always have wind here in Kansas, so my hubby built the coop so that the sides lift open, taking advantage of any breeze.
