Farm innovations 4250 incubator

This is my first time to try to hatch chicks.  When I called the representative he asked if the black wire had a piece of plastic stapled to the end.  It didn't.  The end was resting on the screen.  I guess that was the problem.  I've monitored it now for over 24 hours and the temperature has held steady.

Ok, now that makes sense! Mine has a thin clear plastic square attached to the end of the sensor. This allows it to ride on top of the eggs as they turn, which would be about an inch above the egg turner.

I bought a 4250 and I am not very pleased. I threw out my first 35 eggs when they were all duds and I realized the digital thermometer was way off. I added two digital ones along with the mercury bulb one and now have the black wire and square hanging from the roof of the unit with tape as it kept falling between the eggs even with the square. yesterday it had a low of 95 and a high of 103 so I doubt this setting will go much better than the last!

I have used the old hovobator in the past with the waffles and wing nuts and it was soooooo much better. I have probably hatched a million chickens, ducks, quail, turkeys and chuckers in the past so I dont feel like a novice.

Also my turner is very loud.

I'm getting really excited about this first hatch. I got eggs from a neighbor and they were very dirty. That had me concerned. Since this my first try I decided to leave them alone. Today they went into lockdown. I have 20 good eggs, 1 rotten, and 6 that didn't develope. I'm very happy. The temp controls are OK and I had to get a hygrometer to know what was accurate. I tested it with the salt test. I'm looking forward to this Sat when they are supposed to start hatching.

i have one and the digital temp is not accurate with the temp inside.i lost almost all my eggs and the 5 that where born 3 of them had there intestines on the outside.i called the company and they where not much help at all. good luck

Is there a way to adjust the humidity on the 4250? I plugged it in and the temp says 100 but it won't let me adjust the humidity and its registering at 78%.

Not that I know of. I purchased a Quality Importers HygroSet 11 from Amazon and found it to be very accurate for the humidity. Also it was inexpensive. Thre temperature gauge on it wasn't accurate. The HygroSet is able to be calibrated for the humidity.
