Farm Swap at TSC in Lewiston Maine- May 12th, 2012

If they are old enough to sell, I will take them. What do you want for them? As long as they are AROUND 8 weeks, you can sell them.

Oh, and my final list:

-3 Barred Plymouth Rock hens. Apprx 1 year old
-3-4 Buff Orpington hens. Apprx 1 year old. (2 are spoken for, so if you want the other 2, speak quick.)
-English saddle, I believe it is a 16 inch seat, does NOT come with stirrups or a girth. Better as a training or lesson saddle as it is a little bit scuffed.
-Homemade Dog and Horse treats. All natural ingredients!

And I am looking for:

Incubator if the price is right
Excercise pen?
Anything else that could 'catch my eye" in the yard! LOL
well, it's $25 for the 4 guinea keets. I am not sure how old they were when I got them but think they were feathered out and have had them for a couple weeks so think they are at least 5 weeks? They are well bonded and the only 4 I have...if you think buying them will be an issue I live in Auburn and you can buy them after the swap??

Not sure when I get there as I have to go into work 7:30 at the vets and groom a dog then I am free to go...I am hoping to get to the swap by 9/9:30...so hold out for me.

I'm bringing 12 young roos.... black silkies, millies, barred and golden laced cochins, and silver penciled bantams.

I'm LOOKING FOR: (females only) any penciled colored birds, bantam brahmas any color, partridge silkie, red bourben turkey poults, any small unusual birds/mixes etc...peacocks.

Thanks y'all

It was nice to put faces to names. Allmypeeps-- still wish you'd had a hen for me cuz those boys were sweet.
Polly... those eggs are just waiting!
Does anyone know if ducklings have the same needs as chicks?

ashandvine: ducklings have different needs than chicks on protein percentages, need non-medicated feed, higher amount of niacin, and they're a good deal messier (can't put them on newspaper). Just do a search on here for duckling care and I'm sure you'll find the info you need (I'm raising ducks myself here in NH). Enjoy!

It was fun to put faces with names....I came home with my Roo from LuvsMyGoats, and 6 of the Blk Spanish Turkey chicks. It was fun to talk to people. I would be happy to part with a few of the Blk Spanish chicks.
I think I will wander to Waterville for chicks and giggles.....
The Roo is not happy being in a cage, poor guy, but they all have to get used to each other so he'll have to tough it out for a few days.
Now I have to get a few cages/pens built so i can separate hens and roos.
In my expereince ducklings have about the same need, I feed the same Poulin non medicated chick starter to everything young and so far so good.
I am excited that LuvsMyGoats is willing to hatch some Coturnix Quail out for me and I will be able to get them at the Skowhegan swap. Yay!!
I think I am going to go back to the farm that sold me the dozen fertile bantam eggs for a buck two years ago and see if i can get another dozen to hatch. I'll bet if I was to put a dozen in a laying box and let my little bantie see them she would sit them.

Hey guys!

I just wanted to thank y'all for making such a good turnout! I couldn't get a good count, but I am estimating that we had around 15 vendors throughout the day, and maybe more, that is just that low end! Great work! I hope that everybody had a good time, and made enough to make it worth it! I am hoping to have more swaps throughout the summer, maybe every other month. What do you guys think?

Thanks again!

Oh and SpottedBat, thank you for the guineas! I brought them home and put them in the coop (in a giant dog crate, to reset their "homing signal") and they are nearly as noisy as everyone says. Noisier than chickens? Yes. Noisier than ducks or geese? NO! They are beautiful, BTW. Well, their feathers are. I can't decide what to think of those guinea faces! LOL, and the hen laid an egg at some point in the day, it was in the box when we got home! I was going to ask you, how old are they? Thanks again!

Nice to be there! Sorry Ashandvine for not having hens...maybe next spring when my flock of hens start laying....I want to create some pure breeds and some fun mixes as i have alot of pretty bantams- barred cochin, golden laced cochin, sultans, silkies, millies and antwerps....and the little top hat polish I came home with---so I cant wait to see what I get when the time comes...

all in all....sold 3 roos (2 black silkies and a millie).....and came home with a bantam cochin and a polish hen and a baggie of dog treats (which I might add my dogs LOVED and wouldnt stop begging for- thanks Mychookschick!!) ....so I basically swapped 3 roos for 2 hens and a bag of treats and had a cool day chatting w/ the public---wish I had taken pics, all the kiddos were adorable picking up and squeezing all my roos with huge smiles on their faces!

Can't wait for the next swap....Im glad the ones up north tend to be on Sundays....as I work saterdays but weaseled out of this past sat. to go....I'm alreayd jotting down all the up comming saterday events and asking for the days off in advance so I dont miss out!!!!!! Didn't sell my keets...so will be bringing them!!!

I met quite a few peep'l there--but not sure I was really introduced to who they are on here....maybe name tags next even would be helpfull !!??
...also, alot of people never heard of BYC...I was thinking of creating little business cards for it and handing them out to promote BYC at these things...do we have anything like that???> I would love to have some if it already exists!

see y'all 'round!
