Hey guys! I just wanted to update this thread! i have a friend that is coming to the swap and would LOVE to find some Guineas and a Tom Turkey (Royal Palm, I think). So I will add those two things to post #2. Let me know if any of you have either that you are looking to get rid of. She need to know soon, so that she can order guinea keets if she needs to.

Hey guys! I had someone ask me to clarify the goat and sheep laws for Maine, and I wasn't sure so I asked Hoppy. Here is her reply to me:

"finally got an answer. all goats or sheep leaving their farm (going to a swap, show, walk around the neighborhood or sale of any kind in or out of state) need to have a scrape number. this number is on a tag or can be tattooed on the animal. tags are free and so is the applicator. the person needs to call Gail at the fed USDA 866-873-2824 and she will send out tags for the farm and the applicator. the tag is a way to trace back to the farm of origin if there is a problem. so if she has a goat that she bought elsewhere and it has a scrape tag, it doesn't need a new tag as long as that tag is still attached to the animal. if the tag come off, she needs to put on her scrape tag. if she goes the tattoo route, ear, thigh, or tail fold."

Does anyone have any interest in an adult breeding pair of Seramas? Also looking to find homes for a few different breeds of chicks all LF breeds: Buckeyes, Dark Cornish, Light Brahma, Dorking, Faverolle and a few more. All will be hatching out over the next month, so it would be a minimum of 6, but alot of different breeds to choose from.

What are you asking for the seramas. I wish your swap was tomorrow I have to go through Lewiston on my way to Farmington to drop off my daughter at college.

Sorry that the swap wasn't sooner, Stano. My sister is getting married in April and I just wouldn't have time to organize it before then. Sorry again. We will be having more swaps throughout the summer, though (dates are undecided, so if you have a request I will see what I can do!!)

I havn't seen anyone post on here lately. What types of things are you bringing.,
I just sent for my SCRAPE tags last week, and was told they should be arriving in a couple of weeks. If I get them by the time of the swap, I will be bringing
some fiber goat babied and Nubian babies.

Don't forget all mammals need to be fully weaned and 8 weeks of age. Also on the scrapie law they can do a tattoo if they choose not to have ear tags. Registered goats need not have an ear tag.

The woman I spoke with at the USDA said that registered or not, you either need a tag or a tatoo. This is to trace the animal back if there are any health issues.
The tatoo or tag traces it back to you, registration does not...the animal could have been at other farms in the meantime.
