Farm Swap at TSC in Lewiston Maine- May 12th, 2012

anyone bringing any type of chicken that will go broody to the swap tommorow to sell. i would like to buy one.
Get a cochin!! I have a bantam cochin broody right now....last year she sat on that nest for 3 months straight- I finally had to lock her out of the coop so she'd eat and drink! also had a brahma that did the same thing. I didnt even leave them any eggs...the nutty things just sat and sat and sat on that empty nest !!!!

anyone got any eggs they want hatched...my hen never hatched any before but she's got her brood on....so if anyone has any fertalized 'experimental eggs' to just for fun see if they will hatch????

Wish I could have made it, but wound up playing the Portland Farmers Market instead.
Going to have to track down some bantams some other way.

The whole world is getting into chickens. My cousin - possibly the girliest girl I have EVER known - wears makeup to bed practically - got chickens & a coop for her Mother's Day gift yesterday. She went from zero to crazy chicken lady immediately! It is great.

Allmypeeps, I might as well have bought one of your banty roos because it was my neighbor who brought home the mille roo! He also bought a cap from the same breeder as you. Its so funny to see him out there loving them up.

Alright, I hope someone on here will relate to this and my humiliation is not left hanging in in the wing:
EW! Fertilized eggs in the frying pan! EW. I had no idea that eggs could get so developed in a day or two. ALL eggs are going to the broody right now. The eggs Polly sold me are under her one day ahead of the latest two from my LavAm.

Question: How many can I put under her and hope they incubate, as in, these were laid and put right under her one day from when the others I bought went under (creeping down to a hen house at night to put eggs IN the house was funny). When will the ones being laid now need to go into an incubator or under someone else's broody??

Next relateable moment:
I just learned that maybe I shouldn't breed my lavs at all :( I am also on the Americauna thread and because my roo has a little bronze leakage and they all came from the same breeder I was told that the girls will likely carry it too and then I will never be rid of the leak. So, I could either ditch them and start all over or try to get a blue/black lav split and go forward. I was trying to do that rather than ditch them but am having a few challenges. So, while I wait to get get a good flock started I have learned I have started out all wrong :( poo... poo on a stick. Hopefully I will find a nice (probably expensive) black or blue roo and these clouds will suddenly seem more shiny.

all of the lavenders in the us came from the same breeder, way back. your best option, dump the roo and get a better lavender. i had one that I recently sold, no gold in him but it is a big issue. don't breed to blue, hard to tell if babies are blue or lav.

Thanks. My mood has matched the weather. I'll go back to trying finding a good black, I guess. I've seen some blues to lavs.. Neat looking. Any suggestions as to other forums to look for another roo? One other BYCer (Madscientist) might have some in a bit. What do I do with this one? EE pool? I have EE chicks (by accident) and get this: my OTHER lav might be going broody. Gosh! I only have the two hens!!
