Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

how sad they are picking on her, i have a very young buff brahma the others have picked on so bad they have taken feather off her chest and foot, she is separated right now and i am healing up her one toe. i have bought some purplish no peck stuff and put it on her. the others hate the taste and leave her alone, i have tried this on one other the white rooster attacked. it really helps, i dont know why they will pick on one except they show a timid behavior, the one chick that the rooster picked on was timid, until she got my attenttion, now she is a tough girl. i wonder if you could smear some foul tasting mixture on your poor girl to detour this behavior

I would love the have the name of the product you are using. I'll try anything. But hoping her new hen apron will help with her back.

Dad is on the light side so you'll want to wait until you get a fairly feathered chick before you try to sex them. I have been fooled a few times by light colored cockerels.

Where is your Fav hen getting pecked? They can get pushed around a lot. I keep a Fav only flock.

Thanks for the info on the sexing. I took newer pictures last night that I will post. The chicks are getting big and have lots of new feathers!

Rexie has zero feathers on her back and under her wings. They are really doing a number on her. It's so sad. And the back of her neck as well. She looks a mess :(
The first hen that picked on her was moved to solitary for 10 days! The minute she got back, she went right back to the same behavior. So I re-homed her. But because my Fav is seen as the weak one, the rest of the flock knows it and my RIR has taken over the pecking.

Newest pictures. They hatched June 18th so they are @ 3 weeks old now.

Here is Twix...the one I believe COULD be a pure Fav. She has the muff/beard and feathered feet with 5 toes.

And this is Jujube who has the feathered feet but only 4 toes. And she doesn't have the muff like the one above.

And just for fun, a cute picture of Orbit. She/he was born last and is very behind in the feather growing. But so far he/she has the best personality of the three! She has feathered feet and 5 toes but no prominent muff, yet.

If they were all pure favs I'd say the first is a pullet and the other 2 cockerels. But since they may be mixes you'll have to wait another couple of weeks.

sorry i didnt get back sooner, i will look in the am and leave the name on here. but i cant help but think there has to be some foul tasting herb, the smell of this particle stuff is licorice. i know anise taste like licorice, i wonder if you made a tea and painted it on her that would help. but to be safe and sure i will leave the name of the company and product for it. we did find it in our local farm and home place. so sad again, i have had your troubles and this stuff was a big help. i actually paint it on the toe and then wrap it with medical tape and soak the tape, they really dont like the taste. but i have a feeling feathers would soak it up

Thanks! I am starting to see markings that look similar to the Partridge Rock in those two darker ones. But with mixes, it's got to be so hard to say. How can you really be sure....even as they age?

Is it Blu-Kote?

The answer to that one is....you can't! Obviously if they show very distinct colour traits then you will be able to tell but I had my batch of four mixes and still don't know who mothered two of them. All were fathered by my one Cotswold Legbar roo, that's for sure. The two Faverolle cross roos were obvious because of the five toes, muffs and beards.....and I only have one Faverolle hen so she was definately their mum, however, the other two, I have no idea.

One of them, another roo, is mainly white with black in his tail and hackles.....making him look rather like a Light Sussex. I have no Light Sussex at all so have to look to my hens who have white....that leaves a white Orp, a splash Cochin and a Braekel (Silver Campine). Out of these, I am most inclined to go for the Braekel due to his body shape but then maybe he got that from his dad??

The last of the four is a little brown pullet. She hatched with the absolutely typical Legbar 'chipmunk' markings and now has the general appearance of a slightly more gingery than usual, Legbar hen so is she mothered by one of my gingery girls....I have an ex battery ginger ranger but she is six years old and I'm not convinced she even lays eggs any more....or I have a Jubilee Orp, a Wheaten Maran or a Blue Partridge Brahma, all that have ginger colouring in there somewhere. If I had to plump for one, I would lean towards the Maran but the pullet isn't feather legged and doesn't lack a proper fourth toe like my Maran so I still have no real idea.

I guess that's the fun of mixed breeds though eh?
