I will make sure my camera is charged and ready. Wish we had time to make it a faverolles fanciers meet. But I think it's to late. Oh we'll. Excited to see everyone.

Well, I just lost little Sammy, remember he was sneezing and got lethargic? I brought him in to monitor- he went into convulsions, he had continued to eat, but kept getting weaker and staggering- any idea what might have happened?

Oh, I'm sorry. What terrible timing, right before Christmas... I agree with Sandi, only a necropsy will tell.

its been a rough year on my birds, but these favs are my absolute favorite- his two sisters are fine, eating and playing, just like normal- so come spring i'll try again, since i am focusing new birds only faverolles or seramas... but of course, that is never written in concrete...chicken math!

Sorry you lost him.

As for what made him sick, hard to say, only a necropsy can tell you for sure.

Am so sorry, bad timing. It happens to us all....Regarding necropsy, its only as good as the vet who performs it.....Find a vet (with chicken experience or ask the state vet where the testing labs are. I had one similar and the vet costs were enormous to put down and send samples. and even thou i was very explicit she didn't even send samples representing what was wrong....thus no particular answer to a possible cause.
be watchful of the others, feel their weight, add electrolytes to their water, and if they remain constant you should be fine.

other things we don't always think about, are poisonous bug bites, accidental punctures that become septic, stress, internal blockages, spoiled feed, getting wet in cold weather and losing warmth, hereditary defects (had a baby llama that at 3mo, was healthy, died at 14 mo. with a hole in his heart the size of a quarter and a growth the size of my thumb), and overheard at the last poultry show that using onlylayer feed isn't good for the boys because of the excessive calcium can cause something similar to urinary calculi (urinary stones/blockage).

Hopefully there will be a silver lining and something good will come from this.....eliz

thankyou- i am thinking respiratory with the sneezing and first cold snap- but, he will be missed- am amazed at the personality of faverolle cockerels- awesome birds
