Faverolles Thread

Hi Bruce - Yes, you have to see it... The rooster will literally call the girls over and give them treats. The one I have will hardly eat anything for himself, he gives it all away! If it's a large piece of something, he tears it apart for them.....
Yeh I have a couple of roos that hollor at the girls and dance around till they eat
When I put fresh water in the pen, he tries it first... interesting behaviors!

I need some input please. I gave my friend a few accidental breeding birds a few months ago, they all looked like white chicks, but one of them turned out to be a peach color. The parents are a salmon roo and a white hen, but I have no background on the hen at all and she has been showing a bit yellowish feather tips before she molted, I thought it was just stains, but they seem too regular to be stains. Here are some pictures, they were taken with my cell phone, so they aren't great, but I just stopped by to drop off gifts. so I didn't bring my good camera. What is she and how did we get this color from the white hen? Is this a type of amelanisim or hypomelanism of salmon? Thank you for any input!

She is pretty, genes can be expressed in many ways, a cross between 2 distinctly different types can look like one or the other or have specific traits from each looking like neither........This girl looks to have taken on the female Salmon Faverolle traits.

Thank you for your thoughts on her.
She has very light salmon color on the outside, but there is no grey underfluff, she is completely void of all other color, which makes her so odd looking. My roo is a very rich salmon color, so I expected a salmon from him to be on the darker side. I will wait a few more months and then take my good camera over there and see how she turns out. Either way, my friend just has her as a pet and she should turn into an egg laying machine if she takes after her mom

RIP sweet Shirley! You had a wonderful life and made everyone that met you love you!

You came to me as the sweetest little chick!

And grew up to be a sweet hen as also.

I will miss you tugging on my pantsleg to let me know you are ready to be picked up.

I am lucky that I have found faverolles to be very cold hardy. Very cold here today got about 5 inches of snow last night and its still coming down hard. Should get another 5-6 inches today. Wowza all the birds are filling up and then hunkering down for the rest of the day. Have to keep refilling waters and have been giving them some cider vinegar in the water. May give each bird some garlic although they aren't showing signs of being sick. Per Dick's advice. Just as a preventative measure. How are everyone in the NE/ MID West's birds doing in the snow?

We only had about an inch but they seemed to enjoy exploring once the actual snow storm was over. Many of them seemed to enjoy eating the snow. I did have alot of "one legged" chickens however. It was like they couldn't figure out why their feet were cold!
