Yeah its pretty bad here. I think we are almost at a foot of fresh snow on the ground. Gave the hens and faverolles pullets some pieces of ham and fat from the ham in hopes that it gives them a little extra fuel. They have stayed inside now for a while. Also added some apple cider vinegar to the water and fed them some greens.

I have heard of others adding the apple cider vinegar. What does that do for the birds? Any chance it helps keep the water from freezing as well?

Give me 5' of snow before a quarter inch of freezing rain!

My girls (about 25 miles north of Henry's) decided today was a good day to hang in the barn. What didn't fall from the sky blew in from where it had fallen from the sky. You would never know I cleared a path to the barn door. Had to tromp back through it to put the girls up for the night. Tomorrow is another day and since I got a new sheer bolt for the blower, presumably an easier day moving snow as well.

We only had about an inch but they seemed to enjoy exploring once the actual snow storm was over. Many of them seemed to enjoy eating the snow. I did have alot of "one legged" chickens however. It was like they couldn't figure out why their feet were cold!

I saw this too! I never thought to see a chicken eat snow but it was funny, almost an exploratory eating.
My Favs have moved in with my one banty. I was feeling like she was alone since I had to get her away from the feather pulling turkeys. She and the Favs are about the same size and their temperaments are similar. I held my cockerel today and he is nice and solid and his pattern of color is starting to block out. Next nice day will dictate some pictures.

Aw, Lisa, I'm so sorry. I lost their mom just a short while ago - she was a sweetie, too. I'm not planning on hatching any more bantams, but if I do, I'll let you know. Plenty of good breeders on here who could ship you eggs, as well!

Thanks Mary! Yes, let me know if you will have any more bantams and I will definitely come here to look for more. We moved back to PA and I need a better setup before I get more but do definitely want some more bantams. Squiggy will be lost without her.
