Did they get sexed chicks? Make sure when the body feathers come in that she is really a she. Cockerels feather in slowly, and I see some darker primaries on that chick. That doesn't mean anything yet, since hatcheries do produce some mismarked pullets.

Thanks for the advice. They did get sexed chicks, so I'm told she is a she. But she is getting a comb much faster than the other breeds. I wasn't sure if it was a breed thing, or if we might be stuck with a he that we'll have to get rid of since no boys allowed in our area.

Here is on of my Fav's from Cackle hatchery. It has the dark spots too.

Look at those puffy little cheeks!

I have 3 broody hens piled up in a nest box....sometime this weekend I expect fluffy butts! The box is so full with the hens I'm scared for the little chicks

Congrats to all the new Fav chick owners!

This will be my first hatch of SF chicks. I'm concerned about the fertility of the eggs. I'm not sure how long it was since the boys had a date with the girls....we'll find out soon enough...

Well here are my new babies! (or should I say teens

)

Three of the four have tail feathers missing as well as some chest and beard feathers but they were in a mixed pen with RIRx, Anconas and Guinea Fowl so I am optimistic it was some of those doing the feather plucking and not them pecking at each other and they will all feather back up nicely.

We ended up with two pale ones and two darker. Their ages range from 9-11 weeks. Here are photos of three of the four, the littlest one wouldnt get its head out of the other feed dish lol In fact they are all rather hungry this morning, they have not stopped eating since I let them out.

I would love opinions on how well we picked??? I tried to remember all those things I had to look for :) and the one standing up in the third photo (and the only one still with a tail) is I think the best of the bunch.

Hope my chicks turn out to be this pretty!!

They're very cute, but I don't see a comb!? Can you get a pick of some toes?

Here you go. There is a 5 pronged comb but its only tiny, should it be bigger at this age?

And the toes.

Two the kids picked have 5 toes as well but they look different, almost two together at the third and fourth toe which Id imagine it is not supposed to be like..
