Faverolles Thread

I am almost 100% that this is what's going on. All the fertile eggs are from my best hen which is nice since I have 4 of her eggs in the bator developing I think I am going to set 4 more of hers and then pair breed the roo two my best blue salmon hen and set about 8 of those and do the same with the other three hens. I was going to sell all the roosters but him but now I might not be able to! I need to test fertility on the Jeff Oxley boy and I will keep both of them if he is fertile. If not the eggs will just be eating eggs for the rest of the season until he either gets his act together or I get one of his sons over the other hens.

Henry, have you thought about keeping the roo in with a few different girls a few days to a week? that way the girls keep in good condition and the roo will get to all the girls circulated to him, he won't get to pick a favorite for long like that. each girl should give you fertile eggs up to 2-3 weeks and then circulated back in with the boy again to keep the eggs fertile.

I think that's what I am going to do I can't keep more than one boy. That is the best option keep the girls in the coop and him in a large cage and give each hen a day or 3 with him. I think that's what I will do.

No they are not recognized the only colors recognized are white and salmon. You may still be able to show her in 4H though. If not I will take her off your hand

Hey everyone. I'm back in the USA and just got done picking up some young birds yesterday. I'll post pics when I get some more time. I wanted to clarify two things. BLACK Faverolles are recognized by the American Bantam Association so they can be shown. They just won't place on the APA side of the house. The second thing is they are to have red earlobes. White in the earlobes is a disqualification. Most judges don't look for it though as the muffs tend to cover them up anyways. I would love to see a picture of your bird.

Glad to hear your home! Did you pick up any favs or just other breeds? Glad your getting back into it quickly. Also let me know if you change your mind about bantam salmons and I could hatch some for you. I also have some silver penciled rock bantams growing out. I am really glad your back!

Thanks, it is great to be back. Now I am getting my wife involved with the hobby. As we left with the birds the other day, we were offered some ducks which she is claiming as her own.

I picked up Large Salmon and White Faverolles and Large and bantam Barred Plymouth Rocks. I am considering changing my mind about the salmon bantams. If I do, I'll let you know. I can't wait to help get the club more active again. I don't usually show birds that I don't hatch myself, but I might show a few Faverolles late this year anyways, just to promote the breed. The ones I picked up are pretty young so, it'll be awhile before I can tell how well they are going to turn out.
