That size is fine for now. Watch when they start growing that they don't cut into their leg. You will then have to go to size 9. I put thin colored leg bands on each hatch so I know which chicks came from which parents. So if a breeding doesn't work I know who not to put back together for the next breeding. I've got everybody ready to go to the show tomorrow. It is going to be a hot one. But it is so close to home I hate to miss it. Only 1/2 hour away. I also wanted to get my pullets out and see how they do.

Yep I use size 9 one of my biggest fears is having a leg band be to small and get inbeded or cut into the birds legs.

The girls don't look much different but the boys sure do! The kids wanted to keep this roo over the other. I was surprised, the other had even more color. That one went to live in ME (the same people who have the red salmons) so I will still get to see how he looks when he grows up!

When you have a chance take pitures of the splash male in Maine.

Good luck at the show Leisha let us know how you do. I am going to send you an email or PM about the parentage of the splashes because I was wondering what the different colored bands meant but didn't want to disrupt the thread.

What are th colors of the leg bands?

If I can remeber correctly lavender and light green I need ro go take a second look. Are the splashes the babies of Cindy's blues? I remember you said the Aunt and grandfather are my blacks. I am wondering because I am hatching from the black cock over the black and blue hen and want to know how related the black cock and Cindy's hen are and also how related those chicks will be to the splash ladies. I need to go look again at the leg bands but I am pretty sure its lavender and light green.

No not Cindy's blues. They are out in Iowa with David. Noone is related in the blues and blacks. Now, the splashes and the blues have the same parents.

You might want to check their legbands, they are a size 7.

Ok that will work then. I will have to send Cindy some chicks and eggs later on though and maybe she can get some blacks from Dick later on to diversify.
