I am the President of the Faverolles Fanciers of America club and if you would like more info on Faverolles, we have just set up a new website on them. It is www.faverollesfanciers.webs.com

Thank you,
I will bookmark the page...

So, what do you think of the pair I posted?

Chris

Hey Chris,
I think you may need to get some better established show stock. The hen is incorrectly colored and her type is not correct for the Faverolles breed part of that may be the way she is standing but her beard isn't heavy enough and her body shape is wrong. She may even be a splash salmon Faverolles which is not a recognized color. The cockerel also has incorrect type and to many points on his comb. Faverolles are a difficult breed to learn the standard for I know because I started off with stock that didn't meet the standard but as you learn what to look for you won't have that problem anymore. The best advice would be start over with stock from one of the established show breeder like and you will be better off and won't have to go through years of working breeding to standard. Thats just my opinion.

I can't help but step in here. The female is actually very nice. She's salmon from head to tail and that is what they should be. Her beard looks dirty, stained and torn up so it's not showing how full it can be. Looking at how far up to the beak the remaining torn up feathering goes it could turn out quite full. The cockerel is very young yet and gives the appearance that he didn't recieve enough groceries in the earlier part of his life. He may look completely different even after a month of decent care. Something I think they both have been lacking in. If you're going to discard this hen let me know. That's how nice I think she should be. Very workable in my humble opinion. I sure wish I had stock that typey to start with.
I'll end there.-)

Peter

I defer to Peter on this one as he is much more experienced then I am. I guess if they molt they could turn out quite nice one of my objections about the type probably was due to her being underfed. The cockerel is also quite young I agree. The one thing I don't agree about is the color I like more lacing but I guess that its just my personal preference and not really founded on personal experience breeding salmons like your opinion is.

My little hen is a rag doll in my arms, but starts to run around every time I put her down somewhere!

I just got real lucky. If I would put one of my R.I. Red or Polish up there they would have been all over the place..

I got a SF this year but she is from the hatchery, not a breeder. Sooooo I have a question for you!!!

What color egg do they lay?

Quote:
They are supposed to lay tinted eggs which is kind of a cream color. But many faverolles lay a darker egg then that.
