Pete, thanks for the words of wisdom - brings us back to reality and keeps us focused on why we are getting involved in both conservation and confirmation. It is irresponsible - and unfair to both fellow breeders, and to the animals themselves - to breed unqualified animals merely to create numbers, or because they are so cute. We are not puppy mills. Foremost in a breeders mind should be what is best for the breed, today and in the future. It's not easy, and it's not always enjoyable, but it is the right thing to do.

Thanks again!

I keep reading about the difference being able to tell by the color of the "dark" feathers in the tail and wing. Well folks it's like this. The color of tail and wings should be salmon. The same salmon as the head, neck, back and saddle. Now....How many have that in your females? Ah HAH! Another point to cull for. Let's all go out and kill all of the females with dark wing and tail feathers..

Well, at least my pullet is safe on that count!

Certainly no dark feathers here (of course, not much salmon either):

We need to be serious in trying to improve our birds but keep some perspective AND a sense of humor!

Well, I would have to get rid of both my pullets then. But, this one is closer to being clear.

Guess what my other little girl did to me? She has gone into molt; the week of our last poultry show for this year! She has dropped two of her main tail feathers already.

Oh, well. I'm going to take her anyway unless she is bald by then. At least the judge might tell me what he thinks of her type.
