Michele, check out some of the home-made incubator threads. Maybe the cost is your husband's issue. Given the price of some of these things, it's a forgivable issue to have. Good luck!

Exactly what I was thinking. There are some on here that use an old cooler (or a cheap styrofoam one) that total cost is around $15 - $20 to build the whole thing yourself...

Also, it's probably possible to incubate without an incubator, but hatch...no...

Do you think with one of these homemade incubators I could get them to hatch?

It is not really a money issue. It is more of an issue that chickens and gardening are my hobby. I really enjoy it but, my hubby has made it very clear he doesn't care to put that much money into the Chickens. I mean the house we bought came with 3 acres and an awesome chicken coupe already. So our chicks got a good life and my hubby has said okay to me getting a few more. I am sure he wouldn't okay me making a big purchase like an incubator. My hubby and I have to jointly approve any major purchase and I know this is one that would get knocked down by the time the words came out of my mouth. So anyway thanks so much for the idea to check out the homemade incubators. I don't mind working for what I want. Do you think any of these might be good enough to get chickens to hatch?

Thanks,
Michelle

Heck ya, folks on here do it all the time. I would too IF I had the patience, which I don't.

I did a pooey one two years ago, and got one chick to hatch out of 8, chucked it in the trash and bought one instead! LOL But I have seen some REALLY nice ones that people have made on here. There's even one made out of a breadbox!

True, but most of us don't hatch out huge numbers of chicks. I don't think most would hatch out enough chicks to be able to ship day olds, they'd get too cold. We also can't sex them that young either! So don't forget you'd get roos too.

It is possible to make a homemade incubator. I haven't done it but plenty of people have. Somewhere recently I saw someone converted an old fridge into one.

Oh yeah, are you looking for bantams or LF? There is someone in GA (dinahmoe) who has bantams.

Thanks, everyone for all the help. I looked at the home made incubators and whew it looks intimidating.

Still trying to figure out what I want to do. I have a neighbor who has been raising chickens for a long time. I don't know maybe she has an incubator or a broody that could help me out. I am only really wanting 3 two hens and a roo so maybe we can work something out.

Oh yeah, I know about the lady in Ga. who has Favs but, she doesn't have any available right now. I also am hoping to get two different breeds. So I am hoping to find someone who has both types of chickens that I want. I am okay with shipping cost. Oh and about hatching a roo. I want a roo and a hen so that would be a okay with me. Just crosses my fingers

to hear back from Pasofinofarms. Thanks again everyone.

just noticed the person I thought had the kind of chickens I wanted I believe has large fowl. Anyway does anyone know of someone who sells Salmon Faverolle roos or Blue/ Salmon Faverolle roos and hens and Blue/ Wheaton Americauna hens. Either eggs, chicks or starter chickens?

Thanks
