There's a small gene pool in the US also. Dick Boulanger, Peter Merlin, the Pattersons and Pam Mynard are the only long time breeders left here. Those of us newbies who recently started in LF have stock from just 2, maybe 3 of those lines.
I wouldn't deviate into buffs. If you want a new rooster than look for a salmon. Anyone thinning the flocks there yet, or is it too early? Or just work with what you have. Put that boy in with the girls with the fullest beards and smallest wattles. Hatch everything and cull hard.
That being said, you shouldn't compare him to US or even UK birds. If you look at some of the Australian champion males on the club's website many have comparable wattles and body type. If you want to show there then you need to breed to the Australian standard.
