Faverolles Thread

I hatched a batch of bantams from them this year, spent a lot of money, and ended up not keeping anything that hatched....

I also hatched some. I didn't keep any either, though I had hatched them more for pets. While the kids would like to keep every pretty bantam we have we can't keep them all!

If you want them for your backyard they would be fine. Eggs were packed very well, and I had an excellent hatch - 10 out of 12, only 3 cockerels. Three of the pullets were real characters. Here are a couple of pictures of them.

Where's my FOOD???

I'm working on the meeting agenda for the club meeting at the Western National. We have some time, but I wanted to get feedback / ideas for items to put on the agenda. Whether you're planning on attending or not, if you have an item that you think needs to be addressed, or something for us to just discuss, I'd love to hear about it, either here, or via PM or email.
Thanks!!

Would anyone be interested in Mahogany Faverolles from Sandhill?

I don't think I want to work with these guys, but thought I'd see if any of BYC friends wanted them before considering them dinner.

I waited for 2 years and finally last year they sent 3 of my 10 but weren't able to send the rest because of storms wiping out so many of their breeders so all I got was the 3. I have one female and 2 males. One male doesn't have as nice of toe separation, but he was the friendlier of the 2 so I kept them both. Someone looking for a project maybe?

I can not ship, I am in Hanford, California and I'm not NPIP. I will try to get pics as soon as we dry out....all wet from a downpour yesterday.

elizmartin is in WA and is working on them (and has been waiting for birds from Sandhill too) and piperomar is in Eastern Oregon and is just starting on them as well...

Planning on getting my first standard Salmon Faverolles this spring. I read that the roo's are less likely to be aggressive than some other breeds so I'm going to try a roo too. My husband is worried about the noise (I'd suppose I am too), so we'll see how it goes. The order goes in tomorrow!

HI, my first LF Salmons came from Ideal and later a female from Cackle. This was maybe 5-6 years? ago. *At that time*, the colors were fairly true, no smudges on the girls and my boy was built like a tank and a *real sweetheart*.I picked up 2 girls from the co-op this year ( think Privit) and they both were almost appy with spots).

Yes, the roosters are goina crow but the Favs i have are not nearly as loud as many of the others i have/had. At night don't always know why, but often they signal when they hear something, I have had Buckeye,Favarolle,Ancona,Barnevelder,Speckled Sussex,DeAnver,Wyndotte,Silkie,Old English,Orpington,Barred Rock,Ameraucana,EE, & a few mixes and only the 2 EE ive had were the nasty unprovoked attack roo's. A couple of times a few have flown at me but it was apparent that they were protecting their girls when i was going for them and ignored me the rest of the time.

I cannot speak of show quality regarding Catalpa/Pontious birds, but Gail and Norman have always been friendly to deal with, wrap well and have had decent hatches.

Best of Luck, eliz

Catalpa Farms got bantam eggs from me years ago. I didn't know they still had bantams.
Dick

Spoke with Gail last Summer and mean't to ask about what Favarolles they still had....My first Bantams came from them and at the time they also had LF white? & Salmon as well as bantam Salmon, blue Salmon. Their Poultry Press ad imply's LF but think they only have bantams now. eliz

Thanks Jeanine, My pair of Mahoganys came from Sandhill and i have 4 more coming this year for the same reason...i too only received a partial group.

2 other folks closer to you are Patty-thechickonthehill in Kentucky??? and Paula from Buck Creek Chickens, Wisconsin. They are both here on the Fav. list and think there is a chance that Patty may be interested. Haven't spoken with Paula for awhile.
