Faverolles Thread

personalities can be different between some of the birds, most of them are very curious and friendly. mine readily come running to see me when they hear me enter the coop with treats! if i go to crouch down to look everyone over at a closer level to them they will come over to check me out and play with my boots and ends of the clothing while quietly cooing or clucking to me. the boys are usually easy to handle. i do have one that doesn't like me to pick him up and will fuss to get out of my hands. so far his newest daughter is a sweetie just like his other kids! she's only 5 weeks old but loves to jump up on my arm to sit and preen and watch over the other chicks growing out with her. she's their older 'sister' and lets them all cuddle under her when they settle in for naps. she reminds me very much of my first bantam faverolles. this girl loves to talk to me!

my 5 LF fav girls are a little different but i don't think they are fully used to me. one girl will talk with me when i visit but she won't let me touch her or seems to cower when i've tried. they are all still curious and will talk in hushed tones vs my Marans hen but slightly louder than my bantams. both my LF and bantams are currently getting along well in the same pen, so they will get along ok if given an introductory period. 1 of the LF girls got into a fight with someone in my coop and she was removed to heal, everyone else of the LF has been fine with the bantams. i haven't put her back in yet.

when i move in the next few months my bantams and LF will be separated so i can keep the 2 in their own areas from now onwards. i think they won't feel quite as squished when this happens.

I've had overall fairly laid back, sweet tempered and friendly Faverolles. Still, I have had one EVIL hen (no longer with me), so far NO mean roos, a very few absolute "touch me not or I shall die" types in both males and females. The last type have generally been raised by broodies. I find that the ones I raise in the brooder are MUCH friendlier - probably because I can't resist playing with them every chance I get.

Okay, I have to do my duty as an Easter Hatch-A-Long participant:

Would anyone be interested in joining us for the 3rd Annual Mahonri BYC Easter Hatch along? We will be setting eggs on March 17th. If you want to find out more about the cool contests and prizes or sign up to join, go here...

Oh how I wish I could! I think my DH will make me sleep on the couch for a month though, since we already have our bathroom taken over by our brooder for the current 5 troublemakers in there.

I'll have to remember this for next year!

Ok, so here is the moment of truth. 2 of my babies are definite salmon females, and two are definite salmon males

Now the 5th baby... is blue (yay!). I suspect that it is a male, but am really hoping for a female. Hopefully one of the favulous people in this thread know how blues color in. Here is a pic of it's wings:

Please don't mind the scruffiness, they are going through the ugly stage already :p

I think I'm seeing something dark up in the shoulder area maybe??? I'm going to say that's a boy. Any blue leg feathers coming in yet?

:( yes he's getting blue feathers on the legs. *sigh* If you'll excuse me, I have a certain blue bird to go pout at now...
