Quote:
I know she writes a different type of book than Dick Francis but Jane Smiley's Horse Heaven is one of my favorites.

Favorite authors besides Jane:

Stephen King
Alex Garland
Orson Scott Card

But I love to read so I don't limit myself to just my stand by favorites. I like new author's with first books.

I believe Orson Scott Card wrote the book The Redemption of Christopher Columbus I love that book

I read all the books by Fay Kellerman and all her husband's books Jonathan Kellerman I read all those and Patricia Cornwell's so I am all burnt out on those

I should read Stephen King I know I would like him

I just like a lot of authors I cant even think of

Jodi Picoult! Hands down. I have read All her books except the newest because it is still in HC and I refuse to pay 25 bucks for a book and my library doesnt have it.

I love Stephenie Meyer too. I just got The Host, but haven't started it yet. I think I am afraid too. What if it isn't as good as the Twilight series?

Conan Doyle
Charlotte Bronte just finished Jane Eyre and fell in LOVE!
James Herriot of course

As a sci fi fantasy loving kid I loved Patricia C Wrede and Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

To the person who wrote that one of their favorite books is about "a chick in the ice age".......that would be a short story. My chickies would freeze their cute little tushies off out of their brooder. Maybe a pullet in the ice age?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Barbara Kingsolver!
Ayyan Hirsi Ali
Colleen McCullough
Laurie Colwin
I could go on and on.

What a GREAT THREAD! I saw many familiar authors, and many more that I want to read now!

I did discover a new author recently who I think might appeal to the folks on this bb: Molly Gloss. She writes about women in eastern Oregon at the turn of the 20th century. Her latest is Hearts of Horses. I've also read her Jump Off Creek. They're the kind of narratives that stick in your mind long after the last page.

Another memorable read: Secret Life of Bees. I started it the night I had to be up at four to catch a flight out of town ... I did a lot of sleeping on that flight!

A Twain contemporary who is also brilliant: Charles Chesnutt.

My list goes on and on and on ... and now with all these wonderful additions, will go on and on some more!

I've always loved to read and my adult children are the same. I don't think any of us read as much as my son-in-law.

I've started reading Rudyard Kipling to my Grandson. He's only 2-1/2, but loves the time in the rocking chair with Granna.

Besides Kipling, I'm a big fan of Stephen King, Jean Auel, Dan Brown and I enjoy rereading the old Agatha Christie books.

Recently, I've been reading Sylvia Browne. I don't buy into all of her beliefs, but they're interesting reads.
