Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Debussey, Ravel, Mozart, Schumann, Mussgorsky... Just some of the ones I like. I'm learining Debussey's Claire de Lune now.
For choral, I adore Faure's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, Beethoven's C Major Mass, Rutter's Requiem and, of course, Handel's Messiah.

I'm impressed with the replies here : That so many of us share a love
of classical music. Truly impressed.

Not to steal the thread, but I'm interested in why we listen to the music
we do. Not only a question towards the classic, but all types of music.
Why do we make the choice that we do?

Hard rock, county, classic or anything in between. Music for all of us.

Should I start?

So much modern music just seems to assault my ears. Harsh sounds, so
much that the music destroys its very self. Your ear can not separate one
note from another.

And for myself, that is a part of the joy I find within the music. Each note perfect
in itself. Clear. Each distinct sound is heard by itself but exists only as part of the
whole.

We've been to classical concerts where the music is the show.

Showing my age here, I remember country music in the old days when it was still
about the artist, their song and the their music.

I enjoyed that.

Been to few concerts in recent years where it was all about the show. Not the music.
Not the artist. It was all about the show. Smoke and mirrors.

I can honestly say that I didn't enjoy the experience.

What's your thoughts? Is it about the show or the music for you?

Oh, the music definitely! We listen to a very wide range of music here- from classical, to country, to rock, to jazz, to Broadway, to whatever else strikes one of our ears. Some stuff is more to my liking, some more to hubby's. But we listen to it all. All our music- and I have no idea how many CDs we have now. Last count we were over 1000, but have added more- is ripped onto a computer and he wrote a music program that shuffles all of it according to the categories selected. So we get some odd combos. Yesterday, it went from a song from"Le Miz" to Metallica! LOL I tend to prefer classic rock, jazz and Broadway, with a little country and other rock thrown in. Sundays here are all classical music days. In the last few years, I've given up on one of my very favorite bands of all time because they have lost their drive. Their new music is just not good. I still love all the stuff that made me a fan for many years, but I don't anticipate buying their May release, and have gone from 8 or so concerts a year (some travelling as far as CA!) to none. So, yeah, it is about the music not the show. Altho some, like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, manage to combine both!
