Working on the plans for run doors and egg doors of my new coop.

What are your favorite latch/locks that you use to keep the coop/run door shut, the raccoons out, but easy enough to operate (one-handed or by children).

My current setup is very much raccoon-proof but is cumbersome to open/close.

Specifically for human door and the nesting box access door.

Ideally I want to build a stable/dutch door for the run. Bonus points if you have tips on best hardware for this aspect! :)

Pop door into coop will be an auto door, so I’m good there.

yeah i was hoping to not use a carabiner. kind of hate those things. surely there is another solution…?
I use a carabiner too. It's the only lock that the preditors can't figure out. Otherwise a key lock or combo lock is the other choice. Those raccoons have actual fingers that can open latches. I swear! They are cleaver for sure.

Then don’t use a carabiner if you don’t like them. I don’t personally, I use a dog leash style snap-hook clip on my gate latches and that works for me.

I get families of raccoons every night in my yard and they haven’t been able to open up my coop, half the time someone like my kids don’t even put the clip back (knock on wood)

I had a raccoon figure it out. I think it was by luck but, it did. Ugh!!! Watched on the camera and ran outside in a nick of time!!
I was watching for that bugger.
So, I trapped him... Boom Gone!
