Favorite vegetable varities

Were you talking about lettuce, Copper? I find that it generally breeds true. If you look in the seed catalogs, you'll most likely not see lettuce listed as a hybrid. But, I've been known to be wrong before. If it does cross, oh well. I've had some awesome results from a squash cross. Resulted in a 22# deep orange buttercup. What's not to like about that??

Yes, but I have several varieties close together, but I do have a young Atlantic giant pumpkin some of it's leaves curled and turned brown so I hope it isn't a virus, I hope to cross it with an " Amish Pie Pumpkin" and make a giant pie pumpkin but that's probably next year :)

My lettuce is almost always in a mixed planting, and it breeds true. I just let the best few plants go to seed, rather than pulling them up. Your curled pumpkin leaves are most likely a result of being bit by a nasty bug, perhaps a squash or stink bug. They often cause leaves to do that. As long as the plant stays strong and sets fruit, you may still be able to carry out your plan this year.

Well first I have to start with my favorite vegetable: swiss chard....does well in heat and cold....a super producer ...and easy to grow....I like the looks of 'Ruby' and 'Bright Lights'....but they don't do as well as 'Fordhook Giant' ....

I tried to grow 'Cherokee Purple' tomatoes last year, but didn't get a single tomato.....it wasn't the cultivars fault though....it was a terrible year....it got so hot so fast that I didn't harvest much of anything.... My go-to standby is 'Celebrity'....and I test new (to me) varieties against it.... I wish I had grown 'Cherokee Purple' this year as everything is doing well....So well it's hard to judge varieties without a similar one to judge against....I grew 'Large Red Cherry' and 'Rio Grande' (a Roma type paste tomato) from seed and the cherries are almost golf ball size and the paste tomatoes look like small eggplants....my large slicers are all doing well....

Another favorite is 'Fooled You' jalapenos...a must have for me because they have no heat....and I can't eat spicy like I used to.....I grow elephant garlic. I like 'Green Oakleaf' lettuce, 'Burgandy' okra, and 'Early Italian' bush beans.....I had a really bumper crop of 'Sweet n Early' cantaloupe a few years ago...but being a hybrid, I couldn't save seeds and haven't been able to find them locally....so I grow 'Tuscan' melons now.....

I could go on and on...but that'll do for now.....
