......so far.... Nothing shipped....![]()
Oh shoot I don’t know about the Marek’s, these are my first chickens so I don’t have to worry about exposing any others. Okay so I have a question about the scissor beak... my little girl is pretty bad. She is a silkie and just shy of 6 weeks. She is half the size of her sisters... pretty much literally. I weighed one tonight that was over 7 oz and she’s only 3.5 oz. She is constantly eating because she can’t get much but I do feel food in her crop. I was just reading about how they are basically starving to death and it’s torture not to cull them. But then I read about culling and I wanted to throw up! I feel terrible if she’s starving to death but also I love her . Sorry for such a long post- hoping for some advice. I’ll attach a photo of her.
Well, that's a cockerel, for one...
For two. There's lots of definitions to culling. Yes, you can put him down, but you can also find somebody who would be willing to help him eat and drink for the rest of his life. Removing him from your flock is also considered culling.
Personally, if it was me (and I know its not) I'd put him down. I had to recently put three of my flock down after a weasel attack that left them mutilated and gravely injured. Its hard, its emotional, but sometimes its for the best. And if you can't do it, the best case... maybe you can find somebody who will... or you can go to the vet and have them do it.
I can tell he’s a cockerel because he has a very wide comb for his age. Every once in a while you get an obvious one. If you decide to keep him and feed him, I wouldn’t let him breed. He could pass it on to his offspring. It’s a cockerel?! How do you know? Everyone says it’s close to impossible to know with silkies! Thank you for your advice... gotta just keep reminding myself this is nature and the circle of life. Certainly without human help this one would have starved to death on its own. But especially when giving them that extra love and he’ll you form a bond and now it will be even harder to put him down. Thanks again!
my experience was alright but not perfect. Ordered some silkies from them. Took 2 days to arrive once shipped. But I felt like they should give the option for overnight shipping but they only have one option for 1-3 day shipping.do not purchase chickens from Feather Lovers Farm. Seven weeks ago I purchased 4 one day old Isbar Chicks, and stated I was in CT and if they couldn’t fulfill the order I’d wait till the Soring. They responded that they were preparing the order for shipment. Nothing received, and silence. Then they said they’d ship the chicks 9/25 or 10/2. Nothing shipped. I wrote again saying it’d too cold in CT for the chicks to survive our winter, and again requested a refund. They said they’d ship them 10/9. They are silent again and didn’t ship to me. I will follow up with the necessary agencies, but in the meantime do not buy chicks from Feather Lovers Farm. They are frauds.
