Aloha everyone,
I'm new to the forum and am currently raising my first batch of chicks. They are just over 2 weeks old and I have several breeds. I am noticing that some have very long tail feathers and some (of the same breed even) have no tail feathers. At this age, is it true that pullets have longer/more developed tail feathers? These chicks were straight run, but I'm hoping for hens! Thank you!

It can depend on family line even more than gender or breed standards. Feathering is widely varied in different breeds, the rule doesn't apply to all, but I found even my very 'mongrelized' birds showed the typical feathering patterns some purebreds have, with males feathering slower and differently to females.

Photos would help, people could probably give you some indications of gender.

Best wishes.
