One of my hens is missing some feathers on her back. She has begun to grow in some soft white under feathers but still has a spot on her back that is bare. The other hens sometimes peck at this area although there are no open wounds. The roosters spurs are not yet sharp (as he is still young). The hen is about 8 months old none of my other hens has this problem. Is there some sort of cover or bandage that I can put on her until the feathers come in?

chicken saddle will help if you see white stubly things comming out of the skin that will be her new feathers growing in

keep an eye to make sure none of the hens are trying to peck at her and if it esculates try to move her so shes not picked on as much

Good luck and have a good holiday

Could it not be the rooster? I know the other hens don't have back issues but I know my roos and Muscys prefer specific hens to do their business with the most and the other hens get it a bit less.... so sometimes I have one really screwed up little chicken and the rest look fine.

Edit: Whoops that wasn't your question. Ignore me.

Thanks for the tip on the saddle. I found a pattern on the forum and just made one out of an old fleece. I put it on my hen just now and she doesn't seem to be bothered by it all. Hopefully this will cure the problem. Thanks again. Happy Holidays!:
