So last night I helped 4 chicks a little early and wrapped them all up with moist paper towels and I am happy to report when I checked on them this morning 2 hatched on their own and the other two hatched shortly after with just a little more help! 19 out of 22 (thought there were 23 earlier but I miscounted), not bad! Who is in for March!!!

well who still has babies on the way this up coming week?

I have some going into lock down next Sat. and Sun.

Hoping I am going to busy with watching babies hatch. I have some OE's in there, and they are hard to see in..just going by the air sac from now on. Can't see anything else. The nice, more clear air sacs..on Sunday, the EE's will go into lock down.

Id there any way you could post a pic of it. If it is a very small portion of the yolk sac it will more than likely absorb. As the umbilical cord drys up it should fall off along with the shell.

I was up until 3am watching her struggle with that shell on her butt!. Woke up to see another pip is starting to zip so I don't want to open the hatch box to take a pic, but here is one I got last night (barely) I can't really check her out until the other little one is out, but the shell came off, she's still scooting around with junk attached, but she's looking stronger & more alert. The sac is about the size of the tip of your pinky finger.

Can't see it that well, but it was flesh-colored last night & not bleeding.

Part of the odds against this set is that some have been sitting since the 10th. If one of these eggs hatch I will be shocked.

The other incubator I am hand turning I am on,y turning twice a day for the first week. I think three times this early in the game is too much jiggling in there. I am probably flat wrong but my mommy instinct is starting to kick in on all of them now!
I mean set them in the incubator and do not turn for 5-7 days. The embryos start to develop with no turning for the first 5-7 days and gives the air cells a chance to settle back at the top. All the major organs are formed by day 5. Makes them a lot stronger before you do start turning them on day 7.
