FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

That crust is a lot more difficult to get off once it has dried. Several of my last chicks had that on them, and the one I rinsed right away (I kept the incubator in a warm steamy bathroom) was much easier to clean off. The others took several minutes with a warm wet washcloth to decrust, and that caused them more stress.

I would wait for it to get more energy though and let it rest for now until it's moving around more.

oh my word she is tiny! and yes so cute!

I stayed up all night, & today- have not been to bed yet. Here's the latest- the egg that pipped yesterday evening went over20 hours, she peeped, pecked & kept struggling but could not seem to get further. I was having a hard time seeing in the bator cause of high humidity- anyway I'll try to make a long story short- I discovered her problem was she had pipped the shell in the bottom middle of the egg (the WRONG, pointy end!) And b/c she had struggled w/o being able to go further w/ her zip, her membrane was paper white, and crispy- dried out where it was exposed. I could not take it anymore, I slowly picked away the shell, but the more I picked away I kept finding dry membrane. Over the next couple of hours I continued to pick away shell & membrane- bless her heart she was so excited to be able to move! I put her back in the bator, hoping she would dry but finally I took her out a while ago and put her in a small box, with felt on the bottom and put my brinsea brooder thingy in the box. I just checked and she is dry now, & talking up a storm to me

She seems strong & perfectly healthy- she just had the misfortune of getting scrambled around during the egg shipment I guess. I still ca't figure out how she survived, & btw the air cell was in the correct place- I have been calling her my "Sugar Peeps"

And still nothing has happened with the other 5 eggs yet. At this point considering I had to open the bator to help her out, and then knowing how she was lodged upside down- I am thinking I waiting until tonight, if still nothing from the other's I might candle them to see if I can tell anything. I don't even hear them peep or anything like I could hear her.... I just knew that she was alive & beginning to fade- so I know I risked the other's but I did what I had to do.... I hope they will make it.

What a cute story!!!!! My "7" eggs are due in this Friday! I am so excited. I am going to be doing a Live Chick Hatching session with my son's Kindergarten class. They are SO excited!! It will be my first time incubating too. I've done a TON of research and have all my supplies...I just hope these things hatch or the kids will be so dissappointed! LOL

- she/he is the sweetest tamest little thing! Sadly none of the other eggs from her hatch made it- I figured out my thermo was no good! I have since gotten a hygrometer/thermo and have had 2 great hatches since.

Good luck with your hatch, I hope it goes well & the kids enjoy it! That's actually how I got chickens the first time- my daughter's (now 18) second grade class did a hatch project. Most of the parents wouldn't or couldn't let the kids have them- so naturally my child says her mom won't mind, she she brought home all these chicks.... What kind of eggs are you incubating?

wowsers, they are looking good Cynthia! what is the final count?
I can't help with the little one, just no good answers, but the fact you think it'll be ok is good.
I am sorry I don't see the gray (just can't bring myself to say blue or lavender, it looks gray to me) or blondes like I got.

7 healthy babies for now, and crispy is still hanging in there. I think if it makes it, Crispy will be it's name. :p It's so needing a bath, but I don't dare even wipe it down until I see it open it's eyes more. So, not bad for a shipped hatched. Over 50%. Thank you for the cuties!
