I wouldve been like all of yall , not getting any sleep, but I have been battling a sinus infection so I have been extra tired! And yes you did beat me on pipping! I was so shocked at how my hatch turned out! I didn't even expect half of them to hatch!!!!! I still have one egg that hasn't done anything! And my bator is starting to smell like what you described. I had one that the air sac was on the side, and I think that the egg that is left is that one, I will find out for sure when I candle it in my really dark bathroom! But here are some pics of my new fuzzie butts!!!!!!
What a great variety! Congrats on the awesome hatch and have fun as your fuzzies start growing up.

Here's my miracle baby..Crispy. I think the name really stuck when gape encouraged her when she saw the first picture saying: Come on Crispy!

When she was fighting for her life, and she was crispy hard. There was no chipping
away at the shell to help her out, it just crumbled in my hand, and there was the stuff.
so I hurried and pulled her neck up out of it. Cleared most of it away, she had bled a
lot! No way I thought, but I put her in the incubator, with no egg shell around her, just
her and the yolk to be absorbed.

Here she is after she finally woke up

She's so cute..I don't know, maybe she needs a cutsie name.. :D

Pretty sweet baby

OMG! She is just absolutely adorable!! Nope, Crispy doesn't suit her...she is too cute!! What about Lollipop - she's just so sweet!!! LOL

Thanks re: Cinder being a sweet soul. She sure is and I can't wait to see if she gives me some blues via our white Ameracauna roo as he carries the recessive blue gene. :)

Wishing Crispy/Lollipop/Cutie Pie continued success in her recovery (a face that cute HAS to be a girl!)

Put the rotten egg in a plastic bag and wrap the plastic a few times around it. If you think it smells now you should see when they explode. You can either toss it in your garbage outside ot do like I do and bury them in the back yard.

You have to remember too that you haven't gotten a lot of sleep in the last few days. You are exhausted and have had high's and low's and now your body just needs to recover. I remember my first hatch. I literally didn't sleep for 3 days straight. My first chick hatched on day 16 and I had chicks hatching for the following 3 days. On the 3rd night I finally went to bed with 2 eggs still zipping. My daughter said that she came into the room at around 2am to tell me they had hatched. I had a full conversation with her and to this day I do not remember any of it. The first hatch you do is the biggest learning experience. Now you know what NOT to do. You will see over the next few days you are going to be running different options through your mind and deciding what you are going to do on your next hatch. I started hatching last July (not even a year) and have not stopped since. Yes, I have been hatching chicks for 6 straight months. That's why I have over 100 chickens...lol. Time does heal the pain and with every new chick you hatch from hear on out you will always be amazed at the life that you brought into the world.

Brookhavens, you offer great support and great advice. Just reading your post made me MUCH more positive about my second hatch, currently on Day 5. THANK YOU for your kind words for all to see and benefit from ~ they're like a warm hug from afar!

X3!!! I have been very blessed with you all, including my Brooks!

Thanks you guys. Brought tears to my eyes. That's what's so great about these hatch threads. Those with a little more experience can share what they have learned with beginner hatchers. What still amazes me is every time I join one of these threads I learn something new. Someone comes up with an idea that makes me think I may just try that next time or they have something happen to a chick that I have never personally experienced. It just goes to show you that no matter how many batches you've hatched out, there is always room for improvement.
