FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Bad news on the broody showgirl/maran hatch too. Yesterday, mama got out and got back on the wrong eggs. I don't know how long she was off, but it must have been a while. It was warm when the sun was up (tho not hot enough) but we found her after dark when we were locking up the coop and by then it was pretty chilly. We should be on day 14 tomorrow so I guess I'll candle then and see if we have any still viable. Boo, hiss.

Anyone have a similar experience with a happy ending? I coudl use some encouragement.
I havent had that no broody but from what i read they can be off for hours and still hatch
.In fact they are supposed to hatch 3% better if they arent heated every minute of every day
.Brinsea has a bator out now that has a cool down cycle just FOR that.! So you may be just fine unless they froze GOOD LUCK on them! .

I don't think I'll be doing the leg/chair thing with future little chickies (hopefully I'd never need to). I'm debating if the chair itself is too cruel for such cutie little puff balls. If it works, great, but I know the odds are quite against it & might just be making her miserable in the mean time. Anyways - our little runt chick is doing really good as well. She's walking, drinking, eating, & pecking at random stuff. Just today I upgraded her bandaid hobble to a thin rubber band that allows more movement & stretching. She picks at it a bit, but is able to keep her bad leg under her still with such little restriction. I'll probably take it off completely in another day or two. She such a little fighter. Her head only comes as high as the other chicks back. Such a tiny peanut.

Good luck with your Isbars! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
Aww, sorry about your little one too! As for the chair, it was actually working for my little one- she just was not strong enough- she never fully absorbed her yolk sac & was not much interested in eating. I think that is what killed her. She actually seemed to 'like' the chair b/c she was up right instead of flat on her tummy... Oh well, like I told DH we did all we could for her.
I hope your tiny one continues to do well!
Sugar Peeps is so happy w/ her new little buddies, she just had to learn not to be so bossy to them LOL She's doing so well, you can't tell she ever had a leg/foot issue!

Just put some eggs in lock down:

2/3 Tolbunts
4/5 BBS Marans
and 6/7 of my girls (Blue & Barred Rocks) very first eggs!!!

I candled right before and all eggs had wiggly chicks in them!!!

Well, this was a really dissappointing hatch for me. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
so sorry to hear that. how very disappointing. i have 4 showgirls under my broody jersey giant (i know, right?). she abandoned them yesterday and by the time I figured it out they had been alone a long time. and I was so afraid they would be quitters. I just candled tho and have movement in all 4. I could even see little birdie feet kicking, or at least I thot I could.

glad to hear you have some...i'm guessing it's easier to take the losses if you have some that hatch. :)

Well I have heard of this happening to other ppl, most of them took the eggs & put in a bator where they did in fact hatch. If you have a bator, you might want to think about it if the eggs are still good...

I've been so stressed the past 2 wks w/ bad hatches that now my face has broken out! Can you believe it? Have not had a blemish on my face for over 20 yrs, I try to hatch some eggs & I'm falling apart

I took that egg into the bathroom and steamed it up good in there and made a little hole. Everything looked good, except she hadn't even internally pipped, and all of the vessels were resorbed from the membrane. I made a little pip for her and wrapped the egg in a wet paper towel and put her back. I did the same for the rest of the eggs, and 2 had not developed past lockdown, but many were fully developed, just never internally pipped and dead...

Of the 12 eggs I checked this morning, only 3 were still barely alive. I assited them as much as I dared, wrapped them in wet paper towel and put them back in the bator. I don't think any of them are going to make it. I had to leave to bring the kids to school and go to work, so they are on their own. Whatever I find when I get home is what will be... I was really looking forward to the silkie crosses... They would have been my first silkies. It looks like the one that was still clinging to life is a Showgirl...

.
Maybe they will make it!!!!

Yes, I just candled the showgirls (couldn't help myself) and have movement in all four. I've got 3 marans under her, too, but they are just to dark to see with my make-shift candler. (flashlight in a closet)
