FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I usually can tell the boys as their combs get pink and the girls stay pale.Is there a sibling to compare it?
Sadly, no. Hope was a lone chick. :c I hope to get her a few buddies. If it is not that blizzard-y tomorrow, and school is cancelled, I might go to the feed store and check if they have a chick for me to have and keep her company. If not, she will have to wait until I can hatch her more. :( She gets so lonely at night.
Comparisons of white leghorns make me think she is a girl. XD:

In this one, the comb is much smaller, but Hope's is not that red either. (also the pic in this link was at 6 weeks):

I guess I'll only know what Hope is for sure until she/he either crows or lays an egg.

Wow I haven't been on in a while and lots and lots of new babies and new eggs!! Congrats on all the hatches and good luck to those waiting. :).

I'm on day 15 with my incubator and broody hen!! Can't believe I go into lockdown in 3 days!! This hatch is flying by, but that's only because I just hatched a batch (my first in an incubator) last week, and have been enjoying my little ones. I'm sure come weds ill be glued to the bator again! Lol

I do have a question though...my eggs were shipped and part of a staggered hatch in the same bator my chicks hatch out of last week. Well, all have definite chicks now however, I have one egg that's air cell is shaped weird. I'll try to take a pic and show it, but has anyone experienced a hatch w a funky shaped air cell? What about an air cell on the side vs the large end of the eggs?

Ok here is the egg I'm questioning...this is ones side of the egg

Here is the other side of the egg and the really weird "extension" of the aircell.

And last, a pic of right in the middle of the two weird aircell extensions. The chick is moving all around in there, so I know it's alive, just hoping it will still be able to hatch.:( Wonder if this was caused from shipping or if it could have been from high humidity when I hatched the last batch in the same bator?

Sometimes my chicks are shaped like a U at one point when you candle As long as its moving i wouldnt worry too much
Aret they set big end up in the bator? or laying down ? If down i might put this one in a part of an egg carton so it can be big end up in case its a loose air cell.

Here are a dew babies about that age Hard to tell on my pics but See the one on the far left? See its comb is more pink?
See the center chick? comb almost white ?Now it may vary with different breeds i dont know for sure but mine the females were that color almost white so light
I just noticed it with all my chicks
I have been wrong so far once.
I have had a couple i wasnt sure of too for while like the one on the right here This pic think a girl but not sure. Comb pretty small and not to pink Now that i think of it these were supposed to be all girls!! i kept the middle one (she is a girl ) but sold the other 2!!
Anyway If it gets darker pink then probably its a boy if its goes lighter or stay that way maybe a girl. Also the boys combs are usually bigger but since you just have Hope hard to compare hers

I have CHICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over the past hour 4 lav orp eggs, pipped mostly zipped- shrink wrapped membrane- which by now I knew I better pull back enough to let them breath- they are all still in the shells, but look great! They're breathing and wiggling, back in the bator wrapped in wet paper towels around the shells. They should all be able to finish up on their own now. And now that I have the rubber mat in the bator, should be able to stand on their own too

I did open the other 2 eggs from this batch, they were dead- but had not fully developed. That was the 2 I was not sure about but put them in lockdown anyway...

Tomorrow is lockdown for my Isbars. I have to candle in a while to see how many will go in the 'hatch bator' in the morning.

Just set some Wheaten Marans in the bator Yesterday. Tomorrow at noon will be a full 48 hours!

Here's a few pics:
The light colored egg on the far right is form my Orpington. I just included it in the picture to show how dark my Marans eggs are. That orp egg is what we used to call brown!
