FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I got my eggs delivered today and am very excited but I have another Q, I ordered 6 and she sent 10 so that is great but 1 has a crack in it. I covered it with melted wax like I read in a post but would you all bother trying to incubate it or just get rid of it. I started thinking that I would not want to risk a deformity in the chick or have go bad and possibly ruin anther egg. Any thoughts?

personally i would get rid of the broken egg. less of a chance of getting a bacteria in your 'bator. thats great she sent so many extras! what did you get?

I always throw away cracked eggs, even one with slight cracks. Shipped eggs already are more of a challenge, one with a crack would not be worth putting in really.

I was pretty depressed when I woke up this morning to find not only little Lila (the chick in the chair) but also all 4 of the lav orp chicks who hatched last night dead. 2 of them never did push out of the shell. Geez I am telling ya'll this is NOT going well for me at all! I still have my little silkie Peeps, she is doing wonderful! I guess DH was feeling bad for me so he went to town, came back with 4 little fuzzy butts! 1 blk silkie, 1 partridge silkie and 2 Porcelain chicks! They are really cute, look healthy & best of all Sugar Peeps is no longer lonely

I put in my 3 Isbars in lockdown this afternoon- I sure hope they do better than the others... I'm about to decide to just buy chicks, wait till they lay & hatch my own eggs rather that keep buying eggs. I have spent a fortune over the past 2 months on eggs, all I have to show so for is Sugar Peeps...

Congratulations to anyone who just had their chicks hatch! (too many to personally congratulate haha)

Unfortunately I had to discard 7 eggs today due to infertility. Normally its a no big deal thing but I was sad, because they aren't just any eggs, they're catdance eggs!
Anyway, I have 20 left. One of them may have a blood ring, but I'll check more carefully later.
Halfway there!

It would depend on how badly cracked it was. I have had an egg that was slightly cracked and I waxed it and the chick hatched out normally. I have others that even though I waxed them they started to develop and then quit by day 10. I guess it is just a personal preference.

Awww. I am so sorry to hear this. We try so hard to make things work and when they don't it just breaks our hearts. Don't get discouraged. I really think it's the time of year. Up until about a month ago I was having pretty decent hatches from shipped eggs. I think the colder weather brings too many changes and our poor eggs take the brunt of it. I'll bet if you tried again in March/April it would be a whole different story.

I know how you feel. I had 24 of her eggs arrive for the NYD hatch a long and only 5 made it to lockdown. 3 hatched.
