ETA: so these were your own pullet eggs? How old are your girls?

Both of my BR pens just turned six months in January and one of the blues started laying on the 12th. I set 4eggs from her that were laid the 14th,15th 16th and 17th. A BR pullet in my other pen started laying on the 14th and I set 3 of hers. I've learned my lesson not to set the very first eggs they lay. Wait a week or two until the eggs get to be a decent size. The eggs were rather small and I think that is why the one died . Very big chick in a little egg.

Thank you for your help. I candled, and it was AMAZING to see the little chicks in the eggs. It looks like I have for sure 5 developing, and 2 I'm unsure of. This is my first time ever hatching, so I'm very proud of th e developments!

Oh great! The ones you're not sure of, leave them in & check again in a few days. Some shells are harder to see than others. Happy you have good development!

I'm so anxious for your hatch as well! We both had some ulcer creating hatches last weekend, with heartbreaking chickie-doodle in the end. Your current hatch is aggravating my stomach as well. I want you to have a great hatch & healthy babies this time! I'm holding out hope. You sleep... I'll sit here & get sick over this hatch for you.

By the way... I'm a bit (ok, a lot!) jealous over the Frizzles auction! When are they expected to come in? Very excited for you!

Aww TY for worrying w/ me! It helps having BYC friends to talk to- I would have went nuts w/o. And still NOTHING happening with the eggs! I'm so afraid they will die shrink wrapped in the shell like the rest. Why can't chickens just be nice & lay clear eggs??? Then we could see everything!
gig.gif
It does me no good to candle @ this point cause I won't see nothing but darkness & air cell- it won't tell me if there is anything wrong in there....

As for the frizzles, she mailed them today- so should be Mon- Tues arrival. If my hatches don't get better I'm afraid to get too excited over them. Oh & she has more she listed, they're not expensive either- you should get some!!!

Candling would show you an internal pip if here is one. Just a thought...

Praying for babies today!!!!

I have pretty much LIVED at my incubators side the first al,ost 24 hours now. (Plus, the bator is on my bedside table!!!)

TY! I actually thought about moving mine to my room 2, but I knew DH would draw the line @ that LOL We already have 5 dogs sleep w/ us plus 2 on the floor!

Welcome to all our new hatch buddies and good luck on your hatches. Looks like my setting/hatching is not going to end any time soon. I picked up 14 Lav. Ameraucana eggs from the PO yesterday and today I am expecting a dozen Good Shepard Barred Rocks eggs to arrive.

On a sad note my very first grandbaby chick died last night. It started with a very small hernia and then within an hour had a full blown hernia. He did hatch 2 days early. Very sad time for me. I had 5 more of my own in there and this morning I have 5 little fuzzballs running around the bator

So overall I am quite pleased with my pullets very first eggs. Set 7...put 6 into lockdown...6 hatched...1 died. I have 2 Tolbunt and 4 Marans eggs (shipped)that are on day 21 today. Nothing from them yet, not even a wiggle. I am really stressing about them today

Thanks for that info Brook, I didn't know that about not setting the pullet eggs- makes sense!

I would love to get some... maybe in a few weeks (my bator is in use right now & wont be free for a while)... if I could sneek them past DH. I'm sure he'd rather not have to expand our coop/run - again! Plus I, well our daughter, made him build a separate coop & run for her silkies for breeding. There's so many breeds I'd love to add though... Polish, Maran's, any olive eggers... the list is near endless. I'm trying to avoid too much chicken math over here. LOL. Having to expand chicken living quarters would not be a discussion I'd like to have with him... especially around tax time.

You Isbars will hatch... I know it! Ok, I'm thinking positively. But don't touch them! If your humidity is right & your temp is right, it will be fine.

When mine were hatching, I always had the urge to tap on the incubator to see if I could get any of them to chirp in their shell. It never worked... but made me feel like I was doing "something". It probably just backfired & made the ulcer worse tho.

Pug! Talk to those chicies. Peep Peep at them..tap the window. Flash the flash light on them. That usually gets mine going when they are close to pipping..serious.(more the flash light than the talking probably)
