How about those zebra stripes??

NO hes fine.
The air cell doesnt matter  now that he has internally pipped
If you assist  it will kill him,
.Leave him alone
He has veins to absorb and  yolk to absorb
When hes almost done with that he will make a star crack in the shell  then he will not do much probably for a long time after as hes getting use to using his lungs... then he will  often after some hours maybe even 12  zip there  are still veins to absorb Even while zipping. if you open the shell  he will bleed to death

Assisting is a last ditch effort when you are POSITIVE  he can not hatch himself.
.
He has to rest. Its a hard job  to hatch and most chicks dont do it in a 1/2 hour. or hour  even although some do but most dont  Usually many hours .

I know and appreciate the info, I have just never hatched shipped eggs, in a egg carton or with whacky air cells. I'm keeping hands off, but sitting real close (bator in on my night stand lol) and listening to it chirp at me every now and again. Now I'm just hoping some others will join in the chirping!! Have 7 in there due to hatch tomorrow. Come on babies!!!

What day did you set your eggs? It may actually be day 20 and not day 21. I just had an egg that was 23 days old hatch this morning so I wouldn't be too worried yet.
Thanks, I guess it must have been day 20 yesturday. I had 2 chicks hatch so far today

I was wondering if you know how to tell the breed mix of chicks. My silkie hens are white and and my rooster is an australorp. I have a chick that is mostly black and the other is yellow with some black. My other hens are golden laced and silver laced wyandottes. Just curious, if you know of a good picture website.

Also any tips on what I should be doing to keep them healthy. I have a heat lamp and box all set up for them and 20% medicated starter food and vitamin water as well. Happy hatching!!

Congrats on chickies Cheryl!!

Can I vent? I have orders coming from other ppl on this site as well as eBay and all are expected to arrive Monday. Anyhow I bought some BIN silkies yesterday mid day bc it said they were ready to ship with an arrival date as early as Monday Tuesday the latest. So I paid. Then the guy messages me to tell me he will start collecting and should have enough ready in 4 days. I explain that I was under another impression they were ready to ship and that I am under a time deadline. He says well I can cut them half silkie and half buff Cochin. I say, ok, we'll see whatever gets laid today and tonight, and just go ahead and cut them with Cochin so I get them in time still. No word all day. Little but ago I send a message asking how it went today and what ended up getting shipped, and he replays a few ago and says not enough, and now the storm is coming in (he is in IL) and says he will wait and collect more over the next few days and ship Monday or Tuesday....I explain I am having buyers remorse now bc by the to,e his eggs get here, they will be needing to go on lockdown around the time the others are hatching, and I could risk losing them bc of the temp/humidity spike. (Really I am not sure but it sounds like a bad deal ok?) anyhow I said, bc of the ad being misleading it would be ideal if he refunded my $$, and now haven't heard anything back.

Very sorry...have you asked for a refund?

Somtime they dont chirp but are still fine in there just doing it quietly!!

Yes I just did. He says the "appropriate" thing to do would ship Monday or Tuesday bc of the storm and cold temps during shipping and shipping should be less than 4 days....ummm...isn't the point of the really high shipping charges to get expedited shipping? I have eggs in the bator right now that made it from WA to GA in less than 3 days. Hubby is mad now too. Blah.

One thing ..when you get them out of the bator to the brooder. dip their little beak in the water so they know what it is.
Sometimes the y dont. Feed they usually do as they like to peck GOOD LUCK on those babies!

Thank you so much!! I love having my incubator next to my bed, and being home all day helps me keep an eye on them....but also makes it insanely hard not to touch!!! And no, I am not adventurous with all that can cause my house to "catch far" but maybe one day I will be more confident! Burnt the hell out of myself earlier again....that "tssss" sound that is your skin adhering to the heat source is never fun.

Luckily I have a ton of bow orders to keep me off my eggs tonight ;) I hope to candle Sunday evening for the first real time :celebrate  I can't wait!!! Really....I don't think I can. LOL!!

i know exactly how you feel! i am living in suspense to see how many of my eggs are actually futile and developing! Hatching eggs is nerve wrecking and exciting at the same time!!!!!!

Exactly! I would think with the storm it would be a bad idea to ship anyways. Appropriate or not it's your money and you aren't getting what you thought.
