FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I was thinking the same thing!!  I saw it & quicked turned the laptop to DH & said "Oohh... look at those little cheeks!! Such a cutie!!".  He was like, "yup, it's a chick".  LOL.   Cami, those are SO CUTE!!! All of them!!!

Oh, just gotta add... I'm a bit jealous of your weather there.  Do I see sunshine? Green grass?  AHH!!  All I see when I look out the window is FEET OF SNOW!  Brrr... Yuck!

Thank you I think they are pretty cute myself. :)

Yes, we have been having warm days...I'm in southern ms, so we can only wish for snow, and if we got it we wouldn't know what to do. Stay warm and hope everything goes by quickly and smoothly with that storm.

Soooooo, I just candled. It's day 7. I have 16 with solid veining. I even saw movement in 1!!! He was doing the backstroke!! I have one I think has a blood ring, I will need to do more research to make sure and I have 1 that is infertile. I am bummed about the infertile one because it was an EE egg that was a very very unique cream color. I am going to leave the 2 questionables until day 10 and ill candle again to be sure. The one I suspect to be a blood ring was an extremely large egg that I probably shouldn't have set to begin with, it was large enough to be a double yolk.

But I am totally pumped about my results!! This means that every single one is developing!! In my homemade incubator to boot!!

I was so worried this being my first attempt with reputable eggs(last attempt was with store bought and all but one were infertile and I had one quitter)

Yay for your success so far with your homemade incubator. I'm doing the same thing thing for my first hatch and I'm having good luck so far with mine too. Hopefully the good luck continues! Sorry about your EE egg - my favorite hen's is an EE and her egg was a dud too....

Your using a homemade bator too? I'm glad things are looking good! How many days along are you? How many eggs did you set? I'm happy with my bator so far, the temp swings +-.6 degrees is the only thing I don't like but it's not a deal breaker. I may invest in a gqf thermostat in the future, right now I'm using a modified water heater thermostat.

I had a Styrofoam cooler kicking around so I made my own. I ordered 3 different thermometer/hygrometers - not one of them shows the exact same readings but despite that, things seem to be going well. I'm going to build another one this week from another cooler - but I'm going to insulate this one because I have to keep towels wrapped around the cooler because my office is so cold but it doesn't seem to be affecting things too much.......just requires more of my attention.

I initially set 16 eggs - my haul for one day - but then the next day I saw my favorite EE had laid one of her eggs - first one in 3 weeks or so - so I grabbed 7 eggs the next day and set those and then lo and behold, she laid another egg the next day so I set 4 more that day. I found one of the 27 I had set had a crack in it so I tossed that one. I had to be inquisitive and I ended up dropping one of the eggs and broke it....that put me down to 25......I had one infertile egg so that got tossed and I had one quitter......I'm down to 23 very active eggs. Some are on day 11, some day 10 and the last few are on day 9......

Lol you sound worse then me! I have 3 thermometers in there too and all read different. One says 102, one says 100 and the other says 99.5. I figure I'm in the ballpark!

Is this the only chick til the 22nd?? If so you may want to get her a mirror and a little stuffed animal. :)

I have a towel in there to snuggle. I will put a mirror in there. Thank you for the info. My chihuahuas keep jumping in there and snuggling and licking her. It is so cute
