it chuold have been a double yolk egg and only one developed but how old was it before u put it in the bator?

The egg was a good 2 weeks old already. I really wasn't expecting it to even start, but it did and has been doing really well, except for the liquid spot.

Have you had this before?

Today is day 21 for my eggs. Woke up this morning to 5/ 16 eggs pipped. Lots of chirping going on in there. Looks like I will have some Valentine's chickies!!!

what are the days to candle on? my first hatch last year i candled everyday! and i did have a good hatch. i think im on day 2 now but write those things down on my calender and i would like to write them down. ive been calnding on day 7 and 10 then 17.

I think it's a matter of choice, seems every one does the candeling diff. I personally only candle on day 17 now...

Ok I had to toss out all of my eggs in Barron's there was nothing they were all infertile.

But I found 6 old fashioned banies eggs. And bought one buff Cochin chick! So now bator is full and and due on march 7.

The lady also has eggs due to hatch sun and Monday and I get first pick! I am so excited. I have 8 in the brooder.

Hatch thread?? I could talk daily with you all way after February!!! And I think I speak for us all when I say....PICS!!!!!!! I love you got the little runt!! I did that last year. She turned into a beautiful Birchen color Cochin!!!! Sadly she was culled after getting injured a few months later. Congrats on your new fluffies!!! And good luck today!!!!

Yea me too! We'll have to just keep it going- Rox is the one that started this Feb Hatch- we were on the Jan Hatch- just kept it going

I'll take some pic today. My eng choco orp chicks should be here today or tomorrow too! Poor DH I think he's regretting a little bit telling me we should get chickens again.
And my little runt is doing so good today- they all are!

Thank yoiu! I will definately have to get me another flashlight!!! Becasue mine is only 30 lumens and that one is way higher than mine! They don't stay at 102 for very long. My husband said that if we don't do good on this one fill up the turner with eggs, but I don't want to risk ruining that many eggs!!!!!! I only open my bator to candle or add water. I have seen several pictures of bators without out the plugs in the vent hole, is it better that way? I have both plugs in mine.

I pulled both plugs from mine, gives more air circulation

Today is lock down! We've had 2 confirmed losses - (my almost 3yr old son woke up in the middle of the night & wanted to hear the "baby eggs" & took all the eggs out to listen to them then dropped 4 - woke up to hearing him say baby eggs hear? hear? no ->The 2 others are prob dead because one has cracking & there was a little blood & the other just has cracking - we'll see

The rest are doing just fine I suppose
I cannot see anything inside my EE eggs they are all filled up - my JB eggs tho are so light I can still see my wriggly fuzzy butts in there!
& hopefully the quail egg is good because it's all dark too

I went w/ a lower humidity this hatch (started @ 50 & only added water once & it has slowly made it's way to about 37% so far so good by doing that -
will be bringing it up into 60-70 range for lockdown last hatch it went up to 76% which I wasn't too happy about but too late for change that hatch. (I'll have to do a few more this way to see if it really makes a diff.
W/ my last hatch I kept the humidity @ a constant 50-55 & they were alright in the moving/activity this hatch w/ the lower humidity all the developing eggs seemed to be training for a swim meet!

I'm soo excited & normally I would be swarming the bator now getting lockdown ready but one of my buns kindled this morning & I have 4 new babies to ooogle at & keep me distracted enough.
I know eggs chicks & such but I gotta show off my lil nuggets they are Netherland dwarfs

Yes vent holes open during days 1-18. You close them (partially) during lockdown to keep the humidity up.
