FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Nope it just dried up and hardened and shrunk. He needed a little more help getting strong but with some sugar and electrolytes in his water he did just fine.

I was up until 3am watching her struggle with that shell on her butt!. Woke up to see another pip is starting to zip so I don't want to open the hatch box to take a pic, but here is one I got last night (barely) I can't really check her out until the other little one is out, but the shell came off, she's still scooting around with junk attached, but she's looking stronger & more alert. The sac is about the size of the tip of your pinky finger.

Can't see it that well, but it was flesh-colored last night & not bleeding.

This so often seen. If you have a pip..I would let the baby here stay put, and let the other hatch. She will be fine. It will come off with all of the walking and tumbling around. It's normal..I promise! When I see one like this I usually wait, if one is pipped, then snatch them both out once hatched, and I pull that off gently. I put a finger up against the babies bottom holding a bit of the stringy stuff, and pull it off. It's fine. You probably wont' have to do anything once the other hatches.

pics of my 3 cho orp bantam babies! #1 & 3 are doing very well- #2 is doing pretty good but seems weaker than the others.

I see one is still doing what I call the paddle walk. So cute how they waddle around on their butts for a while, with their legs straight out front like that. Cute, cute, and cute!

Wow I forgot how exciting and stressful this is....

Any babies yet???!!!

So last night I helped 4 chicks a little early and wrapped them all up with moist paper towels and I am happy to report when I checked on them this morning 2 hatched on their own and the other two hatched shortly after with just a little more help! 19 out of 22 (thought there were 23 earlier but I miscounted), not bad! Who is in for March!!!
Awesome numbers!!!!

I want to be in for march!!! I really wanna do button quail!!!

Had to leave my newest batch of eggs in the new homemade incubator this morning before leaving for the day. Prayed for them all day. Got home to a nice humid bator at between 98 and 100*, thank GOD!!! I covered one more hole to see if it brings the temp up a little more. (2 days ago the same 25watt bulb made the incubator 120* and now I can't get it to 100 hardly....what the heck???

both my other bators are holding steady with temps, but I give up on humidity at the moment. It is SO dry in my house, it's just getting sucked right up!

One of my BR pullets outside has went and grown up on me in a weeks time with tons of rain, her waddles and comb are HUGE all of a sudden!! 21 weeks looks good on my little ladies!

Hope you all had a great day!!

I have an elaborate color coded numerical system to know what is where and when. My husband looked at the chart and told me that I make chickens complicated.
