FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Ok, here is my current deal:

ahem

Incubator 1 goes on lockdown.....LOCKDOWN!!!!! (omg reign it in Robin) and then (LOCKDOWN!! OMG OMG OMG!!!)

Incubator 2 is on 9 days now...and let me tell you, those teeny tiny little Silkie eggs are some squirrelly little guys! Movin and groovin all the time!

Today at 9:30am I added the FIVE sultan eggs and 3 Sizzle eggs into the incubator, on March third they will move into incubator 1 (that will have hatch #5 in them cooking away a few day already) then on March 13th, they will get moved to incubator #3 to lockdown.....LOCKDOWN!! LOCKDOWN!!! *sigh* That word excites me way too much....

Incubator #3 that currently has hatch number 3 in them (sultans/sizzle are hatch #4...follow me people!!) has been knocked down to the final 14 eggs. I wont touch or take out any more eggs now until hatch day for it which will be March 10th. I know for a fact that 8 of 14 are moving around good right now so I am happy and content that incubator #3 (home made bator) is working fine.

Hatch #5 will be some eggs from a few awesome sauce peeps here on BYC and praying all arrive safely this week, and will get put in next Saturday at the latest.

oh....and tomorrow.....

Gosh, all this talk of peeping, pipping and hatching is making me impatient for things to get going around here! I have a broody hen at day 18, a bator with 10 days to go, another bator started yesterday, and another broody started yesterday. This is just the beginning! I am so eggcited. This is so much fun watching everyone's progress.

These guys are hard to sex. They hatch in a bunch of different colors. I have gotten Blue & Black Barred, Solid Blue & Black and a few Splashes.

Splash, really? I have been wanting a splash..yaay! So, the barred ones are supposed to be easy with the spots on the head. Large long spot..boy..small round spot, girl? That's how I've heard it being done anyway. There was one site, where a lady was putting two and two together, the spot, and the color of the legs. But where you have the blues with them, they will be different anyway. Can't wait, can't wait. It will be fun to see what hatches...even if I don't get a barred, then a splash, oh my. East Hatch A Long is getting here..slowly but surely. :)

LOCK DOWN TODAY FOR MY OE'S...LOCK DOWN TOMORROW FOR MY EE'S.

Now for the hardest part..waiting those three days!

I woke up this morning to my very first baby

She is stuck in the egg carton.. I feel like I should take her out.. If I don't see another egg with a pip would it be safe to remove her really fast?

Wow, nice set up! Cute baby, come on other chickies...What is that little one?

I candled last night (which was day 7-8) and all the eggs look Sooooooo much better then the last time I incubated. I think it might be because of the great genetics. My eggs are from a coop of mostly delawares, and some RIRs, some ameraucaunas, and barred rocks. (also a few mystery breeds) Some of the eggs were so full of veins and blood I couldn't find the eyes! XD

Last time I could see the defined embryos with only a couple veins here and there, but this time there are a tonne of veins and blood! I DO hope some hatch!!!

This is not my picture, but most of my eggs looked like this (Minus the defined eye on the bottom):

I also have a green egg that I believe is not fertile.

It was the only green egg in there. :( Oh well.

I'M HOME!! ...& I have a star crack PIP! Come on babies!!

Egg #4 has the star crack, Egg #5 has an internal pip (thanks to being able to candle from outside), still waiting on anything to happen in #6. I don't have high hopes for egg #1, and not really any hope for egg #7 which was my funky one. (There is no egg #2 or #3... those were super early quitters).

DH did not make us go watch the pine box racing stuff at the church. We did however, stop at the TSC... they had no chicks yet, so then he took me to our local farm store & we picked up 4 more chickies!! I got 2 light brahma, 1 RIR, and a little bantam chickmunk. So cute... now I have Mini (last batch silkies), my leghorn, isa brown, 2 brahma, RIR, and a "half pint" banty.

I don't have Mini in with this group. He's in a separate brooder. Once I know for sure that he's healthy, I'll put him with the others. :)
