I have 8 babies, one I assisted, and am working on. The strangest thing. When I candled to go into lock down, there was this one egg ... that had NO air sac, but the baby was alive and moving well! Never, have I had that happen. I kept moving the egg around to see if I could see just a tiny bit of air in there..none. I could see blood vessels and clots. So, I put a question mark on it, and put it into lock down..I knew which one to watch.
When all of these babies started hatching, and I had pips by the end of the night, I thought, if I am going to have a chance saving that baby, which I highly doubted, then I best just go ahead and pip it and see if I can clear a way for it. As soon as I pipped it, all of this stuff came oozing out..sorry everyone..icky explanations, but this is so strange. I thought I heard a chirp! I thought, nah, I'm just hearing things because I have heard chirping all day..lol. I started to remove more shell, then the egg just crumbled in my hand, then I really heard chirping! How in the world could this baby chirp in this thick goop? It was all thick. I hurried and lifted it's head from the goop. It's head was still tucked down. I got it out, and it started breathing that not so good breaths..but it was chirping a bit. I hurried it to the bator with some paper towels, what a mess! It had a lot of yolk to absorb.
That baby has now absorbed most of the yolk, and is moving around. I am going to give it some electrolytes and hope for the best. It is chirping once in a while, but it has't opened it's eyes yet. Unbelievable that this baby is alive. I so hope it lives..and is a girl..she's mine! Pictures later of the babies. Some just hatched during the night. They were due to hatch today! There is no way this baby would have made it, it would have drowned in all the thick stuff. Cross your fingers everyone. I would love to be able to post a picture of the miracle baby.
