Whoopee, first hatch of the year for us. My broody BCM hen has gone from 3 eggs to three peeps in her nest box. I have never hatched under a hen before and I am just thrilled. I would like to transfer them to a brooder and give her more eggs. My question is: What is the chance she will set another week on some eggs I have in the bator if I give them to her? She did continue to get up and eat, drink, and eliminate, out of the nest every day, so she is in good body condition. I am concerned about leaving the peeps in the hen house without additional heat, but at the same time I hate to take her peeps away from her. I am in New Mexico and it is still very cold here. Any experiences/advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Whoot! Congrats! Trying to catch up..just watching for a couple on here that is going balistic on having their very first pip, and zip. Can't wait to see what happens when the eggs actually hatch! :D
Oops, didn't answer your question, and someone probably already did..I personally wouldn't put more eggs under her. She needs to be up and about now, she's been down a long time already. Plus, she will want to be with her chicks. She won't want to stay down.

Hi there Cynthia

I have a couple that are colored like that and two that are bleach blondes and then the grays, all with little sideburns
These were extra spot holders in the brinsea and there were no Ameraucanas in this little batch. Got another cacking through it's shell. If you have 3 already, your doing great and understand what happened for my new years hatch.
Sounds like a good start

I have 8 babies, one I assisted, and am working on. The strangest thing. When I candled to go into lock down, there was this one egg ... that had NO air sac, but the baby was alive and moving well! Never, have I had that happen. I kept moving the egg around to see if I could see just a tiny bit of air in there..none. I could see blood vessels and clots. So, I put a question mark on it, and put it into lock down..I knew which one to watch.
When all of these babies started hatching, and I had pips by the end of the night, I thought, if I am going to have a chance saving that baby, which I highly doubted, then I best just go ahead and pip it and see if I can clear a way for it. As soon as I pipped it, all of this stuff came oozing out..sorry everyone..icky explanations, but this is so strange. I thought I heard a chirp! I thought, nah, I'm just hearing things because I have heard chirping all day..lol. I started to remove more shell, then the egg just crumbled in my hand, then I really heard chirping! How in the world could this baby chirp in this thick goop? It was all thick. I hurried and lifted it's head from the goop. It's head was still tucked down. I got it out, and it started breathing that not so good breaths..but it was chirping a bit. I hurried it to the bator with some paper towels, what a mess! It had a lot of yolk to absorb.
That baby has now absorbed most of the yolk, and is moving around. I am going to give it some electrolytes and hope for the best. It is chirping once in a while, but it has't opened it's eyes yet. Unbelievable that this baby is alive. I so hope it lives..and is a girl..she's mine! Pictures later of the babies. Some just hatched during the night. They were due to hatch today! There is no way this baby would have made it, it would have drowned in all the thick stuff. Cross your fingers everyone. I would love to be able to post a picture of the miracle baby. :))

I knew I should have helped 13 last night. She didn't make it. I read tha assisted hatch thread and when it said "membranes darkening and tanning help) well...that was hours ago. I pulled the egg, chipped, poked a little, chipped some more. She was fully developed and expired in the shell. Now, do I mess with 17 and 19 from yesterday this time?!?!?!

sorry 13
