February 2017 Hatch-a-long

Locked down my Super blues and silkie/frilkies. Only pulled 1 silkie/frilkie egg. They all had funky air cells, and some of the Super Blues with large misshaped air cells do not look to be as advanced as the rest. I am hoping they hatch!!!!

Since I had an incubator failure with my last lockdown, I'm using my Brinsea to hatch these. The staggered hatch that is due in 10 days got moved back to the LG. Those were the ones that were in the LG and got moved to the Brinsea when the LG was used as a hatch bator. So, my poor eggs have been getting shuffled and moved. Let's hope I locked down the correct eggs!!!

My next hatch is going to be staggered, and I'm trying to take copious notes, but I know my 'system' that works great in my head may not, in actuality, have any merit!

Ok experts I have a question I have my eggs going now on day 14 but have room for more in my upper level of the incubator and have 24 eggs ready to go in can I put them in and when I lockdown in about 4 days will that effect the new eggs I put in there??

And darn it, why can I not do better than 50% on shipped eggs after lockdown?!?!
You'd think, if I can get to day 18, I ought to be able to get them to 21!!

Yes, the lockdown humidity will be too high for your 'just set' eggs.

Yes, the lockdown humidity will be too high for your 'just set' eggs.

The higher humidity for 3 or 4 days won't be that bad - the not turning of the eggs for 3 or 4 days might not be that bad. If you were to wait lock down 1 day late, it will have less of an impact. The other eggs will only be on day 7 to 10 during the hatch, that will leave plenty of time to adjust for air cell changes. I think you'd be ok.

What kind of incubator do you have? Will you be able to remember which eggs didn't hatch and the ones that still have 2 weeks to go?

I have a 96 egg incubator with two levels would be no problem with which eggs nor turning it f the eggs at all my older eggs are all on the lower level and I have two egg turners also so humidity would be the only problem there and I'm running the incubator at this time on low humidity 20-30% so I didn't know if the higher humidity would effect the new eggs during lockdown

Inspiring story from this hatch - i don't know if you will be able to tell from this picture, but that egg was held together with athletic tape. Yes, and quite embarrassingly, I dropped another egg just days before their hatch date. This one was pretty bad. There was a giant crack from the air sack, all the way down to the tip. I held out no hope that it would hatch. But, at lockdown, it was still kicking away, so I carefully peeled back a small amount of the tape and prayed that would be the side it would pip on. Last night, when I went to bed, nothing had happened with it. This morning, it had already hatched!! Amazing!! Never give up, my friends!

Wonderful story! Sounds like something I'd do...Congratulations!

I actually don't know but it does hold a good temp and humidity
