February 2017 Hatch-a-long

Gah! I had 77 chicks show up in the mail yesterday and I was so busy with that after work I forgot I still have four eggs in the incubator and didn't turn them all day. I can't even remember when they are due! Next Friday, I think... Hopefully I mentioned it somewhere in this thread so I can go back and look lol

That's exciting and frustrating all at the same time! :ya :barnie Great reminder for me because today is my 'eggs at the PO' day, and I know I'll get so wrapped up with those I might do the same. Going to have to tie a string around my finger (and then try to remember what the string is for!).

Lol I have thought about trying the string around the finger thing, but I really would forget what it's for, so I'd also have to have a note to myself in my pocket!

I would not have hatched a single batch without my Hatchabatch app!!! Even with the app, I've forgotten to set the batch, then I have to try to remember what I was doing the day I set them - trying to figure out which day they started. Now, I set up the batch as I set the eggs. It's the only way I can keep track!!

Where did you get 77 chicks from? What kind? I ordered 18 once and they sent me 22 - they were LOUD. I can't imagine what 77 sound like! Good luck!!!

I have a CHICK! The bantam eggs are starting early. Had a pip EARLY day 19. It hatched about 6 this morning. There is 1 more pipped. Let's hope this little frilkie encourages all it's buddies!!

They were pretty loud! I put them on my enclosed front porch and it took a while for it to warm up out there so they were really complaining. 25 of them are assorted old english game bantams from Ideal. The rest are from Cackle and are 11 different breeds/varieties. I had a couple friends go in on that order with me to save on shipping so 17 of them are theirs. The order of 25 was a last minute spur of the moment thing because Ideal was having their weekly special and I LOVE OEGBs. Now I am looking at them all and asking myself what I was thinking lol.

Turning is not so important after the second week. I know a few people who stop turning on day 14. So I'm sure you are fine.

I have a calendar in my hatching room and I write everything down, keep track through posts here, through texts to friends. I'm forever looking back for the info! LOL

And we need pics of the 77!

UPDATE: Huge pip in back. Will update when they start coming out.

I would love to--one day when I have the appropriate set-up--hatch larger birds: turkeys, swans, emus! I'm curious about how many days the gestation is for turkeys (and any of the larger birds)? I think ducks and geese are only a few days longer. Please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong. :)
