February 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
4 out of 16 hatched so far.
All have pipped. Several malpositioned this go round. Not sure why.
They are really dragging this out.🤣
DId you expect a fast hatch. Like when you are cooking popcorn and the first kernel pops and then BAM you got a bowl full of popcorn?

Yeah I really wish that was how it worked.....

My very first silkie hatch several years ago, literally did pop all at once like popcorn! 🤣Haven’t had one like that since of course.😊

Well I’m not sure if I should be in the March HAL or this one, so I picked this one haha. I just set the rest of my hatching eggs to add to the polish eggs I added Sunday. I have 13 porcelain d’Uccles and 1 bantam Cochin :) So now I spend the rest of the month anxious every day that they’re properly growing 😆 I’m naturally a worrier so this whole process is probably not good for me haha. I always have the worst time with the humidity…I’m going to try staying down in the 35-40% range until lockdown. I always worry that it’s not enough…but perhaps I’ve gone too far the other direction in the past! So fingers crossed! Hatch dates 3/6 and 3/8! 😍

I went ahead and candled yesterday evening. 4 quitters, eesh. That means 7 will make it lockdown (hopefully) out of 22.... a less than fantastic percentage. Even though I know the reasoning behind it and am not really surprised. And my two olive eggers are still good :wee
I've started gathering eggs for the next batch which will be much better, with any luck at all. The hens are starting to lay more regularly now. I've gone from getting 4-5 eggs a day, to 9-10, so it won't take me as long to gather enough to fill the incubator.
