February 2023 hatch-a-long

I candled the local eggs and found that one of them was cracked almost like a hen had pecked the egg. So we are down one before we've even started. I put wax on it, but I will likely toss that one. Worried about risking the other eggs if that egg explodes once we incubate. 😏

I forgot to candle the eggs I was hatching for this guy the first time........ yup had 2 explode. OMG the smell was HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! and cleaning out the incubator was just as bad. Think it was day 2 that they exploded. I didn't think any would explode that fast! I had to toss a couple eggs that looked like they had the yolk on them but they did look clear so hopefully they were.

Did you set chicken eggs? Then your hatch date is 21 days after putting them in the incubator. Give or take a day or two.

This is my second year of hatching. I did maybe 6 batches last year, in a smaller Kebonnixs incubator. My new incubator also has a built-in thermometer and hygrometer, but I've had some of them fail so I don't trust just the one that came with it.

I'm very curious to see how your hatch turns out with the box as it was designed to be used, and no changes - versus mine, with all my tedious and maybe superfluous modifications.
I set chicken eggs, hatch date is Feb. 5. I didn't know the hygrometers would fail that easily.

Oh no! What happened to the rest of the eggs? :barnie

Oh no! How awful. Well.... I might be in a similar situation. Look at these eggs. I'm a newbie, but aren't these porous? Maybe I should not even set them. Ugh!

Day 3 candle.... Set 30 eggs so I had to stack and turn some by hand. 11 for sure embies, 1 not sure what is going on, 5 ?, And 13 saw nothing. I removed 6. Which is early but it was way too cramped in there. Cracked those and nothing. Hopefully I see more in a couple days.

Now the funny thing. So the first time he gave me EE and tan eggs (he wasn't sure whose those were). None of the EE did anything. 2nd he gave EE, silkie, and tan... None of the EE did anything, 2 silkies and the rest were tan. This time it was Silkie, EE and he thinks maybe his Spitzhauben. 10/11 developing are EE this time.....
