February hatch-a-long 2018

Congrats on the little one - agreed on adorable! I wanted to ask you guys just to verify before I threw them out, but when I candled the eggs tonight which is the 7th day only one out of seven showed clear signs of veins growing. All the others were just blobs with either no circle most did have a circle though, and I noticed very small black spots only one in each. But the one that is doing well, its like night and day compared to the others when looked at through the light. Are the majority of my eggs doomed, as I suspect?

Well only three have hatched they all doing great very active little ones. However we had one almost finish hatching and it died before it finished... No ideal while temp and humidity was great the membrane was still moist. Still a few that haven't even started pipping externally yet. Guess we keep waiting and see who comes out late.

It happens - there must've been something not quite right with the chick. Don't beat yourself up, just enjoy the active, healthy ones. Congrats - aren't they the cutest little things?!

Yeah they are, it just wasn't fun explaining it to my four year old she learning hard lessons on this farm. Lol she already knows that meat birds are for chicken nuggets she gets excited and asks me when we going to process more birds so she can have more chicken nuggets. She has a nugget addiction.

So I'm on day 18 and I candled my eggs. They're big and I can see them moving! So excited :D However, I saw hairline cracks in two of the eggs. I'm not really surprised because one time when I lifted the top the temp gauge swung down and hit the eggs, but I didn't see a crack then. My question is, should I worry about sealing it up? It's a small hairline crack, so what is your opinion on that?

EDIT: Also, one of the cracks is right by the airsac.

Yay! I'm exhausted...

Isn't it exciting?! I would seal them up just to be on the safe side. It'll stop any bacteria from sneaking in there. I've used wax before (from birthday candles). I think others have used nail polish.
