No, at least at a day old, the Shamos really aren't all that different looking. I'm sure in 3 days they'll start to grow out their own separate ways from the Marans crosses though.


And by the way, I don't have ANY Marans x Shamos, far as I can tell. . . Maybe ONE, and that is all. The rest have beards, muffs, and a little crest. There's just one so far that doesn't seem to though. Really, really hope it doesn't.

Oh well. Either way, I'll be hatching some more, this time with a 100% guarantee they'll be Marans X Shamo, and with the Marans hen being the fastest growing and biggest of all my girls. So excited. . . She started laying today after a long molt.

Good luck to everyone else!! I still have several eggs left to hatch though. Have a Shamo just barely coming out and another that's sitting in the egg for a hour or so now. Poor thing had a hard time zipping due to the fact that another chick was sleeping ontop of it during the process!

Ok I am in my first time to hatch, only got hens in September and have already had 3 broodys .I have 7 eggs under 2 broodys, 3 under a b.o and 4 under a Silkie Pekin cross the eggs are Pekin mixed. I had 10 eggs but candled on day 9 and only 7 were good they are due on 7 th Feb . Good luck everyone

I think I saw one rock last night though while I had my nose pressed against the window.

I have 33 silkies eggs in incubator from my blue and splash pen. They are due to hatch on the 7th, 11th and 15th. Hopefully all goes well. I have had some varied temps, spikes and such. I also have 8 LF splash cochen eggs in also. Can't wait for the hatch. These will be for my daughters fair first week in Aug. We also have 14 in the feed out pens now!!! (or should I say tubs in my basement)!!!

I set my first eggs ever last night in a Hovabator 1602N. I have ordered the turbo fan kit and hygrometer from GQF . Will the eggs be okay during the time it takes to install the fan?? Here's what I set:

12 Lav Ameraucana Bantams
6 BBS " " all from little ameraucana mom

8 of my own backyard mix....White Crested Black Polish is the Roo hens are, BO, WCBP, Mille Fleur, EE...

I am a nervous ninny over here!!

My lock down day #18 is tomorrow ... I am down to 8 eggs that candled good out of 10. I didin't even expect that many good eggs in this weather so I'm pleasantly surprised with these EE eggs from a friend.
