I have some Eco 20 questions though too maybe you guys can help me out...

1. Just got everything up and running a few hours ago so I know things are still stabilizing...

A. Additional new thermometer is reading 98.7, but the thermometer it comes with says 101*.... ? Which one is right or are they both wrong?

B. I am currently calibrating my hygrometer... It's about 2 hours into the 8 hour wait and it's up over 80... will it stabilize as well come the 8 hour mark, or is it just REALLY off?

Not a Brinsea owner, but I can tell you that normally the thermometer that comes with such incubator can often be off. . . If it is a digital one, a part of the bator though, then I don't know what to say. Not sure on the hygrometer part though.

I have ANOTHER pip!!!

Hi all! I'm relatively new to backyard chickens, but just set my first batch of eggs under my broody Cochin/Ameracauna hen. I figured since she was broody SO often, I might as well use it to my advantage.

I have 7 eggs: 2 buff orpington, 1 cochin, 1 black copper marans, and 3 silkies. Looking at a hatch date around Feb 19th....but do Silkies hatch a little sooner? Can't remember.

Happy to be here!

Welcome! No, Silkies hatch out their eggs the same as any other chicken, normally at 21 days, but it can vary. Take mine for example, my current eggs are pipping at day 19, meaning I'll have chicks out by day 21.

Hi everyone getting ready for the big lockdown on Tuesday....will have babies anytime after that..well i hope i will....great mix of silkies from our own and two other sources plus some ameraucana eggs and a couple of test nankins to check out our new rooster....so far so good but will no more after final candling on Tuesday night...happy hatching everyone

Well, I've got two chicks out. One Marans x Shamo and one, umm, accidental Tolbunt Polish x Marans. Honestly I put it in there as a Marans x Shamo, but it looks like the Tolbunt I had in with the girls several weeks ago carried his legacy a little longer than I had hoped. Oh well. . . The chick is very cute! Orange head, black body, feathered shanks, muffs and beard, and a small topknot. Sadly s/he is of little use to me though. The cutie isn't even mottled, far as I can tell so far.

Past that, I've got 4 other eggs pipping, 2 of them are pure Shamo.

Pics coming soon.

It depends on what incubator you are using. for still air incubators 101-102F is the preferred temp, if using an incubator that has a fan, try to keep it closer to the 99.5-100.5F range.
